Like everyone else on this forum (or so it seems), I went camping last weekend. Had a great time, saw some elk and deer, and a bunch of smaller critters. I got a chance to test my Wetterlings SFA, and it did a great job. My Bahco folding saw (Kershaw brand) really shined at cutting firewood. I'll try and post knife reviews from this trip later. Here are some pics for you to enjoy.

Anyone know what kind of bug this is? About as big as my thumb...

hey man if you select the pics you wanna post, and click on the button at the bottom of your photobucket page that says -generate HTML/img codes, it will take you to a page with the appropriate codes. They will be under img codes for message boards, cut them out, and paste them in your thread, and the pics will show up here.

Nice pics btw. Looks like a great time!!

Your first picture is sideways. Other than that, great scenery. I especially like the water shots.

I believe your bug is a Ichneumonidae Wasp.
Nasty little critter.

Thanks for the posting tips and suggestions on the bug! I don't know what it was, but I didn't take any chances, if you know what I mean...

I don't think that he saw your wasp. If you'll note, the wasp has alternating yellow and black on the antenae and legs, and also has a yellow patch on the thorax at the base of the wings. I don't see any of those things on the bug in the original post.

The stonefly is extremely common in the wst anywhere you find water, and major hatches take place throughout the summer.

Yeah when I see pointy things on the south end of a large north heading bug, I stay away too. I'm not into getting stung.

Sodak where were these shots taken? In Colorado or some other corner of the Rockies?

I'd like to see a Colorado rendezvous for W&SS forumites.

That's me too!!! It always cracked up everyone in my unit when I was in the Army, I'd kill all the rattlers and cottonmouths if I needed to, they don't bother me. I respect them, but don't fear them. Wasps send me running like a girl! :D

Ilbruche, that's Hall Valley, Grant county road 60, the last crossroad on Hwy 285 before you start the climb towards Kenosha Pass (going south). It's a rough trail, but very pretty. It's the same road that takes you to Red Cone and Webster passes.
