I don't own a waki, but I've seen some swords where the convex is real subtle and it'll almost look V ground, and it really doesn't become apparent until you try to sharpen it on a flat stone.

that might be the case with mine because i took a small section of the edge and blackened it with a sharpie, then rubbed it just a couple times with the Lansky to see where it was. i wasn't going to do much because i'm scared to mess with the edge on such an expensive piece. but here's the weird part - i had the Lansky set to 30* (one side) and barely touched the shoulder of the edge. could the edge angle really be steeper than 60*? that seems strange.
