DWRW: Wow, you have a Northwind!!:thumbup:

Yes. That it is. And yes it is a nice blade.

It is a little lighter and more nimble than the Waki. But, the Waki has more power and is well designed where it can be used with either one or two hands.

I only have one Northwind. And am still kicking myself to this day for not picking up a 2nd or even a 3rd when I saw some dealer blowing them out for around $100, $110, $125 or somewhere under $125 - can't remember.

I picked up 2 Wakis to make sure I am covered. ;) I HIGHLY recommend picking up at least 1 Waki if not a spare. I am pretty confident those who don't pick up a Waki will be kicking themselves later.

...................

Back to the scheduled program: I would LOVE some SATIN differentially heat treated tantos (with visible Hamon) to compliment my Waki. One 13" and one 9" sound pretty good.

.

That's awesome DWRW  Those northwinds are rare indeed.

So glad I picked up a Waki though; I most certainly will not be one of those kicking myself later :D Though my wallet will probably kick me later for entering the Busse Kin world....

Wouldn't mind seeing a tanto. Wouldn't mind seeing a full set actually .

I would love to see them bring out a hamon on the satin version. Something like a Matt Lamey hamon. I know I'm just dreaming though...

I used to have a Matt Lamey knife at one time. Nice little knife.

In regards to the Waki hamon. It is my understanding that the Waki's ARE differentially heat treated. So far, the hamons don't appear to be showing for those who have stripped their Wakis - at least not like the hamon shows on other Swamp differentially heat treated blades.

But, it is also my understanding though that Jerry did a little tweaking to the heat treatment to make the Waki's EXTRA tough. I am not sure what he did - ... of course. ;) But, the extra toughness "appears" to have come without the visible hamon.

However, while the hamon may not be nearly as evident and visible as normal, it might still be there (?????). So far, I don't know that anyone has made a significant effort to polish the blade enough to confirm whether there or not.

In any event, especially on a Waki, I am willing to sacrifice the hamon (if I have to) to gain the extra high level of toughness.

I'm pairing my Waki with my Tali-Whacker, so maybe a blade in between would be a nice way to fill out a trio.

I wonder if a tanto would have a regulator type Res-C handle, it would need to be a little longer but the shape seems very appropriate.

I might agree, but I can't say. ;)

But, actually, I "Would" rather the tantos have the same micarta/G10 options with same guard and ricasso as the Waki to compliment more.

I am NOT sure what the heck is going on with the Waki's pommel yet. I might think it is interesting "IF" I knew.

But, I still feel I would rather have the pommel much simpler and more streamlined for Tantos.

Good point about the matching set, I guess I was thinking of them as solo products for some odd reason. Too many headaches.

I don't know, maybe someone with expertise can enlighten us. I remember reading somewhere that swords like the tachi required edge down carry when the samurai was on horseback for a couple of reasons. But they switched to edge up carry with the Katana or Wakizashi when on foot because of the quicker draw. This guy isn't on a horse, so it probably should be edge up :).

Looks like it's been done before!. Now we just need the handle to match the waki's...:D

Hum, those are a little short for what I would be looking for in the matching tanto but dang, that is a nice knife. Someone does nice work and it does not look like it would be too hard to accomplish at the factory.
