Here is a set of four Integral Persian hunters made by Rodrigo Sfreddo (Brazil)
for my new book "The World of Art Knives". THe idea was to display four of his
amazing Damascus Patterns in one set of Integrals.

“Four Integral Persian Hunters”, September 2009
A matching set of four Integral Persian Hunters, with desert ironwood handles,
a horizontal tang and a split rear end. These four Persian hunters, were named
after the four different patterns of composite Damascus that they were made from.
From the top:
“Interrupted Twist”
“Madeleine”
“Stripes”
“Merovingian”

All four knives were forged from composite Damascus of twisted bars in variations of
Turkish Damascus, and twisted Mosaic Damascus. The flowing lines and the horizontal
tang are the Persian influence on the design.
Blade lengths 5 1/4” (133 mm), overall lengths 10 1/2” (267 mm).

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

love the second one from top.
do you get to keep all the knives that are made for your book?

Ahh, my friend, I am satisfied with keeping them inside the covers of
books that I created. High quality printed knives.... :)

Having several thousand amazing modern custom knives
kept together on one book shelf between the covers of 6 and
now soon 7 books, does make me feel like I created and own
the greatest collection in the world.... :)

All the best,

That's a very impressive set --- the damascus patterns are absolutely gorgeous. He's one of the best, and his integrals are always a pleasure to see.

I wish he would have stamped these on the spine, his mark seems to get lost in the pattern of the damascus.

His Damascus is insane good. Those pieces along with other recent ones I have seen have instantly become some of my all time favorites.

I've fallen and I can't get up.

What a talent! And I have to say that the concept was brilliant.

Wow very cool I met Rodrigo last year at blade and I hope he comes this year as I would love to handle some more of his knives.

Those are pretty nice! I like the bottom one with the straight turkish twist the best. I find the variations a little distracting.

Amazing control of steel blended with some outstanding ironwood and shapes.

Pleasure seeing them. My favorites are the bottom one and second from the top.

Can you show a comparison picture that has the complete knife in the picture (i.e. full handle and blade)? It would be nice to see how the patterns look through the full length of the knife, especially the top one.

Always happy to oblige...:)

Took me a few minutes, so I hope this is what you
wanted to see....

These steels are amazing...as can be expected of a talented bladesmith like Rodrigo:thumbup::cool:

Staggering knives, I love nearly every Sfreddo I've ever seen (though I agree that the makers mark is lost/distracting and would be better on the spine).

To me, the photo contrast seems unnatural. The jacked up contrast does make the pattern jump out, but the colors of steel are lost. Perhaps it's an artifact of reproduction on my computer screen, and is more subtle in the book... I am also wondering, is the shape of the two bottom vs. two top knives different, or is it an artifact of the lighting that only the bottom two knives have a very dark area between bolster and blade?
