Here's Rodrigo's "School Hunter", well at least an embellished version of it, which he presented as one of his "MS" Test knives at Blade Show. School Hunter, as this is the style knife which each student makes at Rodrigo's bladesmithing school in Brazil.

My friend, Chuck Kerwin and I had to see Rodrigo's test knives and after picking this one up I had to have it. One of those cases where the outstanding knife/sheath package drew my attention but after experiencing it's feel in my hand there was no turning back.

It's fit/finish is without question as it being judged along with four others by the ABS mastersmith panel in certifying Rodrigo as a "MasterSmith".

This was the Rodrigo's first of this damascus pattern, so he allowed my friend and I to name it. So please, all future owners of this pattern remember we were under pressure to come up with something in a short period of time. ;) :)

Here's the specifications:
BL - 4 3/8"
OAL - 9 3/16
High contrast "Stars & Bones" damascus pattern of 01-15n20
Beautifully sculptured Imbuia Burl handle with pearl laminated pins.
Rodrigo's beautiful semi cross-draw leather sheath with Alligator skin inlay.

As always thanks for looking and comments are appreciated.

Good for you Kevin!!! I am so glad you were able to snag this one. Beautiful!!!! Lin

All of Rodrigo's knives were astounding, as testified by the number of other Smiths gathered around his table.

Congrats on snagging this beautiful hunter.

John

That was a sweet piece all right - as were all of Rodrigo's knives (to say the very least). I thought the pearl pin covers were really nice touch.

Very nice catch Kevin:thumbup:

Marcel

Are there photos of Rodrigo's other knives???

That is an outstanding knife!! It is so beautiful. I love everything about it. That fantastic sheath makes it a complete package.

I can see why you are pleased Kevin the knife and sheath are superb. I can't believe I never got to see this knife in person. Coop fantastic pic. Congrats

Very cool hunter, Kevin, sweet score!
Really like that damascus and the sheath completes a great package.
Rodrigo's sheaths equal his knives.

I agree, I saw some of his work first hand on his table and was blown away!
I was also surprised when I saw another mastersmith buy one of his knives at blade.

Oh man, that is a BEAUTIFUL hunter. And you are correct, the sheath is outstanding as well.

Congrats Kevin.

The dude is on another level; I've been saying this for years.

Nice snag, Kevin. That was the only one of his knives that I could've possibly afforded, but would've taken almost all my money.

My personal favorite of Rodrigo's test knives, was the ivory coffin handled bowie with the 7 bar Turkish Twist damascus blade. Hopefully, somebody has a nice pic they can post.

It's beautiful, and I hope the wood doesn't shrink.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Kevin thats a very nice hunter indeed. Looks like it would fit into the hand both comfortably and securely, really like the contouring.

Congrats on an outstanding purchase Kevin. Your post made me realize somehow I missed going to Rodrigo's table:(

That is an exceptional knife and sheath.

Peter

That's an outstanding hunter and sheath. I'd be proud to own that one too. Congratulations.
