Rodrigo Sfreddo Yataghan

Right around Blade Show, Rodrigo posted this piece in the Brazilian maker's forum on the KNET forum. Amid 30 praising posts in Portugese, I offered mine in English. (I'm sure this was destined to show there, before he had to cancel.) There were other nice ones too. :)

Like you guys, I think it's simply off-the-charts. I am partial to it because of a Khyber I own.... :D

Miró Machado is doing fantasic work. It's a pleasure seeing this quality work with the clarity it deserves.

Somebody PM me with his asking? I am not on his email list.

Holy crap! That thing is freakin' awesome! Those fullers.... That pattern weld... Even though this design is not my primary interest (if I were going for a persian or middle eastern style piece, I'd want a beefy khanjar) the craftsmanship just jumps out at ya.

I love the historical yataghan, and this piece is very far from the real stuff, but the design stands on its own, and the execution is incredible. I'd be proud to own this work.

Agreed on all points.

His price is $1,690.

This is much less than this is really worth IMO. There´s a very happy collector grinning about this piece somewhere in the world.

Rodrigo is walking towards the art knife concept. We may expect more beautiful stuff like this in the next few years, and I hope within that price range!

I sure do hope so.....I'm on Rodrigo's list for just after Blade next year....where he no doubt will get his MS:thumbup::D

that is super sick! I haven't seen a Sfreddo integral that I didn't admire.

Jaw droppingly awesome. I bet it is breathtaking to hold. I don't think I've seen more than a few knives in my life that were more striking that this one.

I have a weakness for Integrals and this is truly an impressive example of
art knife steel-and-fire work......

Bravo Rodrigo! World-class forging!

All the best,

Absolutely gorgeous. I'm still trying to figure out how he did it!

Ah, it looks like it's coming my way....

Congratulations Joss! This is an excellent addition to any collection, and I think you will provide it a good home. There are few good hands such as yours in which this piece could have gone to. I´m happy it´ll be yours.

C'mon, give us a close-up of the blade pattern ;)

Rodrigo's work always just astounds me...

If the wood shrinks...you may not be happy.

The wood shrunk up on the tang of my Fall Leaves Fighter...enough that the tang steel was "proud" (visible to the eye, and could be felt with a fingernail, easily).

I REALLY didn't want to screw with sending it back to Brazil for a redo, so I sold it at a profit to a very experienced fellow collector who doesn't care one way or the other....he loves the knife.

Rodrigo makes a fantastic knife, but the shifting of handle material(third Sfreddo that I have seen with a proud tang) is a deal killer for me.

YMMV.
