Roger P's #1, very sweet with a Dan Farr flair!

Roger, that's a very good looking knife. I was going to say, for a first knife, but it's a good looking knife, period.

Yep, Roger you did good.
Nice execution and fit-up on the spacers and guard.
Good blade profile. Nice handle design and execution.

Thanks gents - and thanks to Peter for the pic. The handle for the bowie came out just as I wanted it. On this hunter, when I next get to Dan's shop I'm going to thin out the underside of the guard nearest the butt just a bit.

One of the neat things about grinding this handle was seeing the different colours and figure revealed as material was removed. I've never seen reddish tones in walnut before - they weren't evident until very close to the end. Very cool to see those just emerge.

The hammer-in was fun

Roger

Man is the Walnut nice,English Walnut if memory serves.
Choice Walnut and DI are so nice...and Curly Maple.:foot:
Nice hunter, the construction thread from Dan's shop was great.
Don't remember spacer material.

Did you ever get to use the big one,Roger?

That's a handsome and from all appearances a very field-worthy hunting piece. Nice job, Roger.

The development of your eye as a collector over the years is obviously paying rich dividends in your transition to maker.

Hearty Congratulations,
Will

The photo doesn't do the knife justice.... ;) Really shows the kind of deliberate passion and attention to learning that you have, and Dan inspires.

I'm jealous. :)

Beautimus to the maximus, Roger!

Hey, how long is YOUR backlog, Bro? :D

Well done, Roger. Great total package. The handle design stands out. Looks comfortable without handling it.

Yep, real nice knife. Feels great in the hand too. But I was even more impressed with Roger's bowie. Just an outstanding piece of forged cutlery.

What's also amazing is the fit and finish on this knife, Roger's first, is better than most makers who are below the JS level but have been doing it for years. Seriously.

Thanks again guys - much appreciated, really.

Do keep in mind that I had Dan at my shoulder every step of the way - this wasn't the product of me figuring things out on my own - not by a very long shot.

Roger
