Rogue rivet on new Buck 112

Michael, I can assure you from personal experience that you aren't alone in getting things mixed up.

Post #19, Michael I am sure a bunch of folks will back me up on this. If that knife came that way to you, someone sanded the scales down. Number two, unless you are practiced and careful I would never advise someone to use a belt sander on a knife. I am talking about a wood working belt sander turned upside down in a vise. You need very fine belts for knife work. You can ruin a knife pretty quickly. The same with a buffing wheel. We should all practice on old beat-up garage sale knives.

Mr. 300 I have taken much abuse from your comment, Also from Jeff Hubbard a Rep from Buck Knives saying that the knife was sanded and a safety issue with having flush rivets.I stood my ground to both of you and said nobody can say except the person that worked on the knife with flat rivets. I just happened to take down the 4 knife set of the streets the company worked from and to my surprise The Federal has the flush rivets as the knife that you said was worked on. The federal came directly from Buck Knives so, They do ship knives out with flush rivets and no one else has worked on. You are the person the people follow and believe what you say. I on the other hand do this thing I do called thinking for myself, and have been disliked from being a P.O. and handing out tickets, it goes with the territory and doesn't affect me. Say what you will but have a look at a new federal and tell me what you see.

Tickets??????. What the heck is all of this about? We all think for ourselves. We aren't a click. We are just some ordinary people who admire Buck knives. I'm not much help on advice but a few guys on here are very helpful.

Man as I read some of these posts I can't get over what the problem is here. And how to make it go away.

300 does a great job for all of us.

Yes I believe you do need them. Do you always stick your nose into a conversation that wasn't addressed to you. KEEP YOUR NOSE OUT!!!

I'm done stud. Your doing well on your own.:)

So with Michael's help I did a little more research on the flat topped rivet pin.

It appears that we did factory made non headed rocker rivets until about 1970. These brass rivets were pressed to swell and then the pressed heads sanded off. This gives good holding power to the rocker rivet. The 50 Anny Federal version used this pressed construction also.
The newer construction with the spun rivet heads will have very little if any holding power if the heads are sanded off, but on the ones with the pressed construction the holding power would be fine.

I apologize for the misinformation

Jeff

Thanks for the clarification, Jeff. I thought something like that might be the case, but I didn't have the facts.

Post #48 Tell the bunch of folks to read post # 48 from Jeff Hubbard and HIS apology!! For misinformation. Are you so sure that you can Apologized?

Michael I'm not sure what going on with you but the insults and miss information are getting out of hand. Why are you so intent on forcing something down everyone's throats? Maybe an apology is in order from you. Jeff H has been posting in bladeforums from what I can tell since 1999. You don't believe anything anyone says. And if there is an error your on it like a fly on...

Well you are both right. 300Bucks is right in saying that you shouldn't sand down the spring pin of your new knife. You were right about your older one not being flawed.

However your tone and words show a level of hostility that may not be not appropriate, thus the only apology needed is...

Everyone calm down. This is a discussion forum, everyone takes on the mantel while here that they can be questioned. My 'sanding' statement to Michael was not insulting. If anyone cannot stand to fit in the discussion "pool" of the Buck forums, if anyone cannot be questioned as to their Buck knife ideas then they are in the wrong place here. I make an effort to see that no personal attacks of anyone's opinions, right or wrong takes place here. Proof is in the knives.

Everyone will act decently to each other or Yes, there will be actions taken on anyone to see that takes place.

300 Bucks,
I like what you wrote and most likely that's as close to an apology as I will see from you, in front of everyone. Jeff wrote me an e-mail apologizing straight out. That he was wrong and the rivets were made flush with the scales. I did not like to be put in the situation where I was called names and was the bad guy for standing up for what I believe in. As I was totally right. My father is not around to help me, as it was he who purchased the knife.

Are we in the same country? what is your hangup? Get it through your head they both made a mistake about MY knife which I knew better. I owe nothing in return.

Further comments, unless directly knife oriented need to be taken to Private Mail or Email. When threads become word battles over perceived injustice they should go off the Open Buck Forum.
