Rollcall for Ohio Knife Show

JT, I sent you an e-mail about that very thing an hour before you posted. You're a mind reader ;)

Tom Marker and I got there Saturday around 12:45. Met Chad Pirtle and his wife, and hung around Mickey Yurco's table quite a bit, talking Guntings, pocketsticks, etc. We bought him out of his two aluminum training knives and admired the rest of his wares--someday I'll have to get a REAL knife from him! Also visited A.T. Barr's table, and his having the ability to do "Spydie hole" folders has got me thinking the unthinkable--customsssssssssssssss. $$$$

I was surprised a few folks hadn't seen a Sifu, or a Blue Native, so I guess I had something to share amongst all the customs and expensive stuff after all!

I broke out the camera to get a few pics of really nice no-frills blades at the table of Sean Kendrick, whose motto, "Innovations in Agression" Tom and I admired. Too bad Chad had left, or we would have taken his picture too.

I'll comment more when I get my pics developed and Tom can post them here (possibly on a new thread--it'll be a few days).

I loved going to my first KNIFE SHOW! It was much less stressful than an Ohio Gun Collectors meet, being smaller. We had enough time to take our time and see most everything, although I missed those Greco "friction lock" knives" (I think I know which ones they were, if anyone has a pic, please post).

Again, more later,

Karl

I didn't know for sure when I could show, but I had some time Friday and got there shortly after the opening bell. I could only stay an hour or so and I've already heard about some of the stuff I overlooked. Crowd wasn't REAL big at first but seemed to get better before I left. How was the crowd Saturday? Hope this show goes again next year.
I've been studying BF almost a year now and finally figured out what I wanted. A carbon fiber EDC in D2M. Now I knew Darrel couldn't possibly have the exact knife I wanted, so I'd have to get on the list. But when I got to Darrel's table, guess what jumped up into may hand? A 4" EDC in D2M. Nobody else even got to look at it!
I also picked up a couple of utility knives from Arno Bernard. ATS-34, warthog ivory and giraffe bone handles, tapered tangs, and Cape Buffalo sheaths. $120 for both! Don't need no slipjoint pocketknives no more.
I'm looking forward to next year, when I WILL spend more time.

The Greater Ohio Valley Knife Show was great! It was a fun weekend away with my wife ,Joanne. It was also a very profitable show for us.
Mick and Judy Koval are top notch.I think this will grow into a show knifeknuts will look forward to attending.
It was nice to meet fellow Bladeforums members in person.I got to talk to Mike Sastre about Kydex and concealment rigs. The man really knows his stuff!Tom Marker and Safety Guy have the same interests in knives and short stick techniques as I do.I had a good time exchanging techniques with them.
I'm sure all in attendance will agree that it is like a Knife community "Family reunion" setting up at a show like this. You get to talk to old friends that you can only visit with a couple of times a year.
The Cambridge area has a lot of Motels and Restaurants. If you missed it,keep this show in mind for next year.

It was really a good time. It was a high quality show and I was surprised with some of the makers there I hadn't heard of. Yurco being one of them, he has some slick knives. I had to buy something. I talked with Greco for a while, I didn't recognize him after he lost that weight. Both he and Yurco were a trip to talk to. I met Chad at Darrel's table. I really only had a chance to shake his hand as he was in the middle of finalizing his MMM deal. Maybe next time we'll get to talk a little. Did anyone get to see Darrel's $10 lighter with a small OTF blade? He was quite pleased with it, until he broke it !:p He said he was going to take it home and fix it. I wonder if he'll put an Illusion release on it?!?!? :D

This is what I picked up from Yurco's table. Very nice! I have to get one of the Talons he makes. The larger one he was wearing was pretty cool!

The otf killer lighter was ok. I pulled the blade out and it started working again . :d
I was going to fast on the open and close hahahaha
Sweet knife! Great for cleaning nose hairs while lighting a cigar!

Nice to meet everyone... We had to tell Darrel's kid he'd run off to the nudie bar. He took it OK. ;)

Mickey lit me up with some of those Gunting techniques. I'm gonna have to get one of those trainers now!
