Ron Hood, Survivalist, and knifemaker lost his battle with cancer yesterday... RIP

We're gonna miss him, even those of us who had never personally met him. My wife and his wife had some correspondence, and I was completely unaware of that until I told her we'd lost Ron Hood. She gave me a funny look and said, "I think I just got an email from his wife." And, as it turned out, she had. It contained, among other things, Ron's speaking engagements for the next several weeks.

After I got over the disbelief, I thought about it for a while, and I reckon I kind of envy the man.

If you have to go, there are worse ways than going in your sleep, right after having been with a large number of your friends, in the middle of one of your favorite activities, on the crest of a creative wave, having just released a masterwork into the market.

We who are left behind will miss a friend and mentor. Karen and the rest of his family will miss him on a much more personal level. That hurts just to imagine.

The man himself, though, will be busy with his next adventure.

So, goodbye, Ron. Sorry you had to leave us early. Glad you went out on a high note. And we wish you the best in whatever you're doing next.

RIP Ron..

Didn't know much about the guy until I heard him on the survival podcast as a guest speaker. Solid grounded guy it sounds like.
