I had the priviledge of shooting this one. It has SO much to admire, I had to ponder this for a while to figure out what I could show and what had to be missed. There is just so much going on. As is usually the case with Ron's work, he makes the very complex look natural. To him.

This pattern is from the book 'Sheffield Exhibition Knives'.

Forged O1, coin-edged titanium liners anodized royal blue, forged corkscrew heat blued and mirror polished. Amber stag scales and stainess fittings. Ron Newton wet-formed the leather sheath with a stainless throat and tip. (The frog unscrews and a leather belt loot can be fitted.)

What a beauty.In every way.

Doug:)

That's a great piece of work as can be expected by one of the best. What I really like about this knife is the open corkscrew. I'm a winelover and most of these type of knives have a closed screw. For those who don't know that ruins the cork and makes it almost impossible to open the bottle. So this package is not only beautiful but functional as well.

I plan on seeing Riad June 3, at which time that Newton will be put through its paces.
I suspect that we may have to test that corkscrew several times, in order to make sure that Ron got it exactly right.

A very exciting blade by Ron, and a super image by Coop.

Thanks for The comments Folks..Ron should be around soon providing his 'puter is up and running soon...
The Knife pattern is called a Texas Sportsman..i fell in love with it when I first saw her in Sheffield Exhibition knives..I will always have a soft spot for multiblades and this piece is the ultimate forged fixed blade for lovrs of slipjoints..The leather Awl rides on a backspring even has half stops...there is so much engineering involved in this deceptive piece it truly boggles...Without a doubt Ron Newton was the artist for the job..unbelievable execution and artsistry...and as Coop said few can be so technical and natural at the same time AWE...
Coop pulled the image off with such flair and attenton to the vital points yet capturing the magic(even the subtle engine turning on the inside of the liners!!!)..NONE better than he I mean it Thanks.
Yes I am Happy!

That knife is dogs**t ugly, and purpose built for 1 collector by 1 maker, imnsvho.

Not to say that the pics should not be posted, just let it be known that of the many talented MS smiths out there, Mr. Newton does not rate highly on my scale.

I am sure that most of you, and himself are losing not one minute of sleep over that.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Geez, thanks to all for the photo compliments. I'm just the messenger... :D

I like the knife - in particular, the stag seems superb. I do think that the design would have benefited from a blade larger in proportion with the handle (i.e., either larger blade or smaller handle).

The pic is awesome.

I love Ron's work, and this piece is no exception. Definitley different from the norm, but a very cool piece. LOVE the sheath, too. Thanks for the look Coop.

All comments appreciated;-)
The knife was in one sense purpose built but it is indeed a historic pattern..and is indeed a bit of a platypus part of what appeals to me!.Ron did not make a truely accurate historic replica but did respect dimmensions and proportions.

I think it is superb, and have said so to both the owner and maker before now. I commend Riad for the vision to commision the piece from one of the most talented MS's around.

It'd be a crime not to ease the stopper out of a few bottles not using this puppy
