Hey friends! A while back I sat down and wanted to design a new Tanto model. My previous versions have had a straighter profile with a gentler curve to the tip.
With this one I was inspired by the tanto master himself Mr. Bob Lum. I am by no means comparing my work to his, but just giving credit where it is due.
The Blade is Hand rubbed CPM 3V. It has a nice distal taper in the front 1/2" of the blade and is .290" at the guard. The balance point is right on the ricasso. It feels very quick in hand. The guard is Titanium with a multi anodized/textured finish and the spacer and menuki are hammered copper.

I made a nice little copper belt stud for the Bison front, hand stitched sheath.
(Pretty happy with these pictures too!) ;)

Here are the specs

OAL - 14 3/8"
Blade - 9"
Steel - .285" CPM3V at 61rc Heat treat and proper LN Cryo done by myself
Handle - Hemp underwrap and black Tsuka Ito. Epoxy soaked.
Guard - Titanium textured and multi anodized green and bronze
Fittings - Hammered Copper spacer and and menuki
Sheath - Hand stitched veg tan leather. Bison hide front and hand made hammer copper belt stud.
Price - $1,100 + $13 Priority Insured shipping
Paypal or Postal money order preferred.

I'm not a fan of Japanese blade designs, but this sir is an exception. Size is perfect, love the steel choice & hammered copper, but (2) aspects really stand out as special to me (overall fit & finish aside): 1st are your crazy accurate fullers - how the side fullers taper down slightly at the end & the spine fuller is just ridiculous; framing your name & pointing right at the spine taper...& 2nd is the multi-anodized titanium, who does that??...it adds a needed pop to the piece, & in my opinion, is the signature facet of the entire blade. I image others may not agree w/me there, but I can't stop looking at that green/blue coloring...it reminds me of water, such a huge part of Japanese culture, even more so for a wondering Samurai. Well, sorry for the paragraph man, I guess I've had too much coffee & this blade is just too bad-ass!

Thanks so much for the kind words guys!
I really feel this is the pinnacle of my tanto designs to date. Very proud of it.

Wow! I have been oohing and aahing over this design for some time and I'm disgusted with myself with not getting one of your earlier ones. This one is downright cool. I wish I had the dough.

Incredibly beautiful. This is the kind of knife that makes me want a better paying job. One question though, you say the handle has a hemp under wrap. Does that mean that the hemp goes right over the steel with no wood or anything in between? Also how much does it weigh?

Thanks everyone!

Under the hemp wrap is hard neoprene. I completely covers the tang. With the neoprene, rot will never be an issue and it adds a bit of vibration dampening also.
It weigh in at 17oz and it balances right on the Ricasso.

All the pictures only show one side of the blade, but as long as the fuller on the other side is symmetrical, I'll take it!
