Rooster Knife???

The knife is described as such, but what is its purpose? A jigsaw blade? A miniature gut hook? Throw in a fishing hook sharpener with a spear. It is unique looking, that's for sure. Educate me here pls.

I assume the knife is designed to clean birds, small game etc, after a day afield. Definitely interesting!!
 
According to other knives found online with similar tools that's a cockfighting knife, but not the kind actually worn by the roosters.

It looks like the saw cuts on the push stroke. Seems like it would be safer to cut on the pull stroke with it being a folder.

Did you win? I was watching it but the bidding went higher than I anticipated. Here's a photo of the saw in use.

I did buy something else from the same seller just now. It's also a bit unusual... a stag #40 gunstock with a Queen shield and Moore Maker stamped blades from a #5204 Sowbelly Moose. It's dated 2009. I guess Queen was using up spare parts.
 
No, I just found it curious. That last pick explains quite a bit. Pics are worth a thousand words. "Spur cutter". Now is that a gut hook for real or is it meant for something else? Seems aweful small compared to the bird hooks I'm used to.

Cool pic, I've sawed of my share of Rhode Island Red spurs. Usually after taking a wound or two before the saw comes into play.:eek:
 
I found some online references to "pithing" the fatally injured roosters after a fight. The other knives I found didn't have that tool.
 
The gaff is attached to the leg and has a hub that fits over the spur tightly. Then wax string is tied around it to keep it completely secure. It is made to be an extension of the natural spur, thus the spur is cut off to a medium nub. The third blade is a sort of seam ripper for quickly cutting off the wrapped wax string.
 
I was going suggest it was for cutting the bindings that are used to hold tie the sharpened spurs on.


But some one beat me to it.
 
I doubt either of those tools are very functional in reality, but since the gaff's only have a point and no sharpened edges - the hook sharpener on the handle would be the most functional aspect.
 
And it comes to light. I completely understand the utility of the knife now. I thought it looked to be an odd.......................bird. Now I see it has a completely functional purpose.

Fascinating thread!!! I've seen photos of folders with a "hacksaw" before, but had no idea they were intended for cockfighting!

A google search gave no relevant results, but I think it's reasonable to suspect that the East Side Game Club is/was a cockfighting ring.
They probably wouldn't put their name on anything today, since it's now illegal in every state. Any idea how old that knife is? 1970s?

I said, "odd.................bird". Referring to the knife, which just so happens to be for cockfighting.
