See... Now yours look like cocobolo to me. The catalog descriptions all say the 163 had that wood. The one I show just doesn't look the same and I've been doubting that since getting it. Maybe it's just a bit lighter, I don't know.. but it looks like a different wood to me.


At any rate, I love the advertising knives. While watch collecting my favorite ones are labeled for jewelers or other things instead of the normal badging. Gives a whole different layer of research and interest into the watch. The knives are certainly the same way I suppose.
 
Cocobola can turn very black with age and use!! Many knives called ebony, are actually Coco!!!
Oh ok, that makes sense, thanks. Maybe someone just cleaned up the one I received and the wood is lighter.

I can definitely see how the darker wood, especially really old darker cocobolo, could be mistaken for ebony.
