Rope on the end of a knife

Will 5/32 fit OK through the hole of my boker Kalashnikov 74 & spyderco tenacious and resilience ?

Answer 1. How would i know?

Answer 2. The stuff stretches! Also, you can pull out the inner strands if you want to make it thinner in diameter.

And how does one braid it so nice:thumbup: @ Yo Mama that braid is just beautiful !

Check tyingitalltogether on Youtube, buy yourself a 1000ft, and clear your calendar. Its pretty easy after a few tries. You will want to put a lanyard, pull, fob, bracelet, on everything you see.

I feel that a lanyard with a large knot at the end helps prevent a small knife or flashlight from slipping out of your pocket, and hiding indefinitely between the couch cushions :)

Like a monkey fist with a 1" stainless ball inside ?

Hey, you guys have some great looking knots & lanyards there.

Yes Ghost, paracord is great stuff, for many purposes. I'd stick with military spec 550, made in USA, which is around $8 for 100' around here in the hardware store. Stay away from the el cheapo knockoffs which cost about as much as the real stuff anyway.

I just started learning some knots in the past year or so, and am very much a beginner too. There are good youtube vids and some books, if you do a search. It does take practrice and patience. There is another knot thread somewhere on this forum... which I always have a hard time finding. Find that and check out Stormdraine and Paracordist. Those guys make amazing works of art.

You mentioned the weighted fist knots. I've taken a liking to them also, but keep in mind that they are deadly, and may be illegal to carry in some situations. They can be very dangerous in the wrong hands, and can crush bone and rip skin with just a mild blow, even accidentally to yourself.

That said, I like them for ornamental purposes around the house, and I think they look nice wrapped around an oval shaped lead weight. I guess if you had to be without a gun or knife, they could make a good self defense lanyard when attached to a flashlight.

I mostly carry a Buck 112, or smaller Buck lockbacks, which don't have a lanyard hole, but I just recently got these Marlin Spike knives and made lanyards for them. I like the look, but I prefer no lanyard for the knife I'm going to use.

These small monkey fists are just wrapped around themselves, with no weight, but I wapped myself in the leg just lightly, and believe me, if you tie them tight, they can put a hurtin' on an attacker.

I just made this one a couple days ago. It's like one I made for one of my "non-gun-totin' friends", who wanted something to carry in the woods when he walks his small dog, in case of an encounter with a wild or rabid cyote. It will extend out and when you put your wrist through, the lone knot up top keeps it from accidentally locking down on your wrist. I call it the "dog walker".

Several styles of paracord knotless handle wraps are very comfortable. I also did my shovel, hoe, and push mower handle and they're great.

Mark me as one of the people who dont like lanyards on big chopping knives. If for some reason i lose my grip on my chopper, i want it to fly off into the underbrush away from me instead of swinging and careening towards my testicles/leg/things-i-dont-want-to-meet-a-blade-upon-my-person.

I just tried to get para cord through the lanyard hole on my resilience.I was able to do it but it took some twisting and shoving.I also use a lanyard on short handled knives to offer me a better grip. This para cord knot tying stuff can get pretty involved their are many web sites that so the many things you can do with it. If you want to learn some knots check out
http://www.animatedknots.com/ My Grandmother used to do alot of this stuff but she did it with yarn and called it knitting:D

Guitar1580 , could you please tell me the make and model of the marlin spike knife on the bottom of your 2nd pic?
PS I was joking about that knitting thing ,don't hit me with that hatchet:D

That is a Visconti Sanzo, Italian military rigger's knife, WWII era, I believe. It's built like a tank, and has a cool built in can opener too.

You selling any ?

Hi, we're not allowed to sell things on the forum if not a paid member, which I'm not yet, but I'm pretty sure we are allowed to make trades. I'm new on the forum and do not want either of us to violate the rules. I have horse-traded a few of the lanyards locally, and have given more away. My friends love them. Message me or give me your email if you want and I'm sure we can make a trade. If that is not within the rules, someone please let me know and I'll edit.

Will 5/32 fit OK through the hole of my boker Kalashnikov 74 & spyderco tenacious and resilience ?

It should fit fine. Here's a strand of 550 cord (not gutted) strung through my Kalashnikov 74 and Tenacious. I don't have a Resilience anymore, but since it's in the same family as the Tenacious, I'd expect it would fit.

You're correct it's Paracord.
And it's pretty much all the same diameter, even the 3 strand and 4 or 5 strand cord is the same diameter of the 7 strand. However, the 7 strand is stronger.
Really lanyards/FOB's are used for looks, easier access, and added grip if needed. Also if you come into a situation and you needed rope, it's a way to carry a good length in a small package. The Skull beads you'll see on a lot of my lanyards are obviously for looks, but I tie the lanyard for different reasons.

I see no reason why it wouldn't go through the lanyard hole on the Boker, I know that it'll go through the one on the Tenacious and Resilience. Just make sure to melt the tip of the cord, maybe even to a point. If the cord won't fit through certain lanyard holes you can always gut it(take out the inner strands) to make it thinner, you'll end up with a thinner lanyard this way but it will still be nice.

I hit up spyderco and the hole on the resilience is 7/32" or 5mm.
I can't seem to grasp american measurements...heh and im an American shame in me:p

I an a 67 year old Eagle scout that has forgotten most of my knots. I do find a small lanyard really helps my small bullet pen stay in my pocket.
