The UHC Hunter and Carpenter are great knives. Add in the Bearclaw and you start wondering why you might need more knives :D:D

I agree completely about the Roselli UHC hunter and Carpenter (I have both), the strongly disagree with needing more knives :-) You can never have too many knives and also need more.

But he's really answering so little. His damascus is in appearance pretty much like pattern welded damascus and the UHC has only a hint of the historic dendritic(carbide cluster/band forming?) appearance of Wootz. I think he's got a point in saying it's based on Wootz since Wootz is a historic term and anything Wootz should resemble the historic info available with certain accuracy. Calling his steel UHC sounds good in that respect.

I did first read about this, must have been ten years ago from a newspaper article. I remember it explained the relationship between the University work and Roselli. but cannot find it online...for that reason alone (cannot fact check, cannot refer to) I don't want to go any further into this. Not enough data. The review is well done, I have UHC Hunter also, so all's cool! :D

It is pretty clear even from what he sad that UHC and his damascus is different things as well quite differently priced. So no doubt about that. And from what I heart - several owners complained about Roselly Wootz cutting performance.

But UHC is one of the best steel around and unlike other ZDP-189, Dozier heat treated D2, Carpenter Tool Steel - XHP, Jody Muller 1095 it is much more available.

Only Endura ZDP-189 have better price while other is way higher, but there is not too much fixed blade ZDP189 knives with comfortable handle like Roselly has out there.

Also with Rangnar there is Japanese Woodworker Store in Alameda which sell this knives -

I found this kind of recognition quite impressive - Japanese have high expectation from knives and choose Roselly as a tool for woodworking!

Thanks, Vassili.
