Rossi .22/.410

I have one each of the Rossi 22/410, and 22/20ga combos. I haven't had a moments trouble with either of them. I bought them at Dick's in Springfield IL a few years ago for $99.99 each. My 410 is a mod choke which I thought was unusual as most 410s I've seen are full. I have optics on both of the rifle barrels, which by the way do not interchange between recievers. The 22/410 frame I used a T/C contender scope base and the 22/20ga I used a T/C encore base (the were both predrilled and tapped). The are very accurate for what they are. I have found that .22 subsonic ammo (in particular Aquila) shoots the best out of my guns. I need to take some pix of them and post'em. On the 22/20ga I put barrel band swivels on the barrel forward of he forearm to make barrel changes easier and sling carry more comfortable. I also screwed on a recoil pad that doesn't quite fit right on it to help with the short length of pull.
Also I'm pretty sure neither of my guns have 2 forearms. I have to dig them out to check.

I'm glad this thread came up. I've been eyeing a Marlin Papoose for some time now, but had forgotten all about the Rossi. Also was thinking about the Savage Camper's Companion 24C also. But you really can't beat the Rossi for size and versatility, not to mention price. But, I'm interested in people's opinions on their accuracy. Seems there's been some concern regarding this in the past.

Raindog,

What do you plan to use it for?

Well, the .22 would be nice for general plinking, maybe taking a rabbit from short ranges (inside of 40 yards or so). The 20ga for fowl, and maybe a deer if I could get close enough for slugs. I'm assuming slugs would have some accuracy from this gun, even though I don't believe the barrel is rifled?

No, my 20ga is not rifled, it has a mod choke. I've shot some slugs thru it but couldn't get a consistent sight picture using the single bead. The 20ga barrel is not drilled and tapped but it is however thick enough that it could be done.

Good to know. It would be nice to have sights on the shotty, even if it's only a red dot, or even some aftermarket rifle sights/ghost rings. Would the 22 barrel have any capacity for mounting a scope?

Great price.

Worker's gun.

You did good. Never lose $ on that purchase.

If you stumble across a .410 loader you can afford, get it.

Price per shell is the only thing that keeps my Model 24 Savage home.

Nice score on the Rossi ! I looked at one with a 20 gauge barrel and a 357...wasnt 60 bucks though, lol You really should apologize for stealing that one !

My BIL got his son one like yours and he loves it, has already taken several squirrel and rabbits with it.

I like my 22/410. It's different than yours in that it has a synthetic stock and fire sights on the 22. It's very light and would be easy to put in a 2500 or larger pack.

My only regret is that I probably should have gotten the 22/20g.

.22/20ga sounds very handy!

That .357 sounds cool too.

Im gonna get out and do some shootin w/ it today.

J,

Make sure you bring your camera to show off that little guns accuracy. Do you plan on patterning the 410 barrel. I think it would be good to show everyone how effective it can be, or not. Looking forward to your report.

I got out and shot it a little at the creek. Its a muddy mess here right now, so i didnt do much but check the function.

Sunday, I will get out and shoot some pics of accuracy, and pattern etc.

AFAIK the only .357/20 is from H&R. http://www.hr1871.com/Firearms/Combos/handislug.asp You could also buy any centerfire H&R rifle, and add any shotgun barrel or any other centerfire barrel you want. http://www.hr1871.com/Support/accessoryProgram.asp

One of these days, I'll have a 223 superlight, with spare barrels in 30/06, 308, 30/30, 357, 44 mag, 12, 20 , and a 410/45. :)

Yeah, H&R definitely has an intriguing setup with the accessory barrels. Too bad the only .22 they offer is in Hornet. Would be nice to combo up with a .22LR. My ideal trio would be .22LR, 20 ga, and 30/30 or 308.

No rimfire because the firing pin would have to be offset. Rossi simply drilled the bore off center to accomplish that feat with their rimfire barrels.

Right. A neat little trick, that. Rossi def scores points for ingenuity. I'll have to see about the reliability factor. I'm planning on picking up a .22/20 model in about a week.
