Rossi 92 vs Marlin 1894

If you are carrying this gun for bear, it is imperative (in my mind) that you have a better caliber for bear.

The convenience of having one type of bullet is nice, but first priority is having the gun more capable of saving your life. This is serious stuff.

Go at least 30-30, better yet, 45-70.

I have the Guide Gun...and wholeheartedly recommend the Marlin 45-70. I understand your mindset pairing the Carbine with the Pistol, but if you feel there is a legitimate Bear threat Id say go with a true long-gun cartridge paired with bear spray.

My .02 and worth every penny...

i have one too.

i love mine. when im out in the woods (not very often) i load with the hornady leverrevolution. if that doesn't stop a bear, it deserves a bite out of my ass.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

Looks like the Marlin is the better choice. I chose the handgun round, so that it could be paired with a S&W 44. Mag. This way you only need to pack one kind of ammo.

I am looking at a 12 gauge as well, but I think that should be on another thread.

Good choice if the problem is black bears. If the problem is bigger bears, get the Guide Gun and pack the extra ammo. You will be glad you did if the thing is actually needed.

+1, or Remington 1100 and slugs.
