I am using KMG rotary attachment grinding between two closest wheels so I get almost flat grind. My 120 grit JX belt doesn't want to bend over the rubber belt edge very well because distance between two wheels is two short.

How do you work on ricasso area on rotary attachment?

Thanks,
Alex

Alex,Is the belt an X weight belt or a J weight ( I have never heard of a JX belt).X weight belts are stiff and go to 120 grit,J and JF belts are very flexible and are made to much finer grits. If you are using a 120JF grit belt you should be having no problem. If it is an 120X weight belt,it may be too stiff to use on that platen.Switching to a Y weight or J weight should solve this.

I have 707E Cubitron on a JE(not JX like I said) weight flexible cloth.
It bends nicely around pyroceram platen but not on rotary attachment.
I compared my 120 JE and 320 JX I have JF is MUCH more flexible.

I'll buy some JF 120 grit belts and they should work fine I guess.

Hi Alex. I have had my rotary for a couple years now...and it took me a while to figure to best way to use it.

I never roll my belts over the rubber like I would on a flat platen because I find it washes my plunges out..Before ht, I use 36 and 60 grit ceramic belts to establish the plunge cuts..light pressure.

After heat treatment,I clean up with a 60 then go up in grit sizes and lightly polish the plunges out....keeping the belt in line with the edge of the rubber...I use the middle sized platen, so that may be a difference

This is a blade I was working on recently...the grinding was done on my kmg rotary platen

I cant ever get the belt to roll over on mt flat platen either :( I just do my best and try to hit the plunge a little after 120 grit but not much. Sometimes if I act like the plunge isnt even there they come out better :)
