I totally agree. And it's nice to see some SS. I like my balis heavy.

Thanks for your continuing updates Chuck!

Chuck-

Are these pre-orders, or are they actually in stock?

Right now, they are pre-ordering, but shipment is only a matter of weeks away.

This is a very well-built, very sturdy balisong that reminds you very much of the old BM customs. Polished down pins, nicely built.

I spoke with the gentleman at the 'factory' and he said there are 100 coming in the first batch and they will be in hand July 8th. He also said about 35-40 were pre-sold at the Blade Show in Atlanta so there will be a few left from the initial batch. The parts are water jet cut, Blanchard ground, and made here in the good ol' USA. Sounds like the 'right stuff' to me!!!!!

I thought the final price was a, "Under $100.00 Butterfly?" I don't care, I'll probably get TWO anyway...

And, I thought it was going to have a reversible/removeable latch? It's Batangas in that photo, so, ultimately, I'll probably get TWO anyway...

DD,

Hey man, where can you get a Beater for that cost that is probably going to swing like a Samson?

Looks nice, but that thing has got to weigh a ton.
The BM-259 weighs in at 199 grams, and I thought that was heavy.
At 240 grams this thing it going to be a monster to do finger twirls with.Time to get my fingers strengthend so it won't be a shock when I try one of these new bali's out for the first time.

Let's put it this way, my custom Bowie weighs at least 8 oz. (the 402 weighs 8oz. and they are pretty much the same). This "Roton" or Monarch or whatever weights 8.4oz.

Personally, I'm thrilled at the idea of a heavy-weight bali. It gives more "feedback" and it feels like your hand and the bali are more of a team. More like "persuading" than "manipulating".

There are two basic "Schools" of using a Balisong in Self-defense:

#1 Use every part of that knife, including the handles as flails/impact weapons.

#2 It's used as a knife, by all means, learn to open it a dozen ways, but don't use it as a flail, etc.

Now, I'm in Group #1.

Both Group #1 and #2 use it as a handheld IMPACT WEAPON, but Group #1 takes that farther and uses it as a Flail.

So, both groups use it like a Palm Stick but the major difference is using it like a flail, for that type of striking.

If you use a BM42 for an Impact Tool, it will work for that, as well as anything else a pocket stick will. It is a piece of metal.

As a flail, it is not, except as a distraction...

Even a 44, 45 or 48 [BM] will knock the snot out of you.

A Samson Custom will bust your knuckles if you get hit with it.

This promises to be more of an all-around Balisong instead of something more geared to high speed manipulations, etc.

I'm going in for a job interview tomorrow, which means I'm probably going to get it. I have a very good recomendation from an employee, and it's my kind of thing. I'll also be going in wearing a suit- I win

So with that in mind, I think I'll be getting me one of these. It's time to expand my horizons. I do prefer advanced, tactical-looking balisongs like the Tachyon, but I also like the look of that, and I never really got too much experience with heavier handles. This will be a good learning experience, and will just plan be cool to have

My favorite 'picture' is flailing the bajesus out of some deserving lowlife, distracting him just enough to clear leather with my 1911!!!!!

In speaking with Richard at KnifeMart, I got the word that there will be a limited run of ALL DAMASCUS balis, i.e., handles, blade, latch, etc.... 135 layer high contrast nickel Damascus!!!

NOTE: The shipping date has been upped to around July 18th..........This gentleman assured me that "no knife will leave that is less than PERFECT!"

Oh wow! You know I hate to be hypocrite but I might have to buy one of those. I can look past the price considering how nice those look. If these are the same ones from the I Spy thread then I have to wonder what you had smeared on your camera when you took the picture, Chuck.

Well looks like I'm working overtime for this stuff
