Rotring 600

I got to check out a 600 rollerball a couple days ago....The cap locked vault tight when closing the pen, but when you place the cap on the end it barely held and you could shake it off...

Was that normal, or should the cap fit tightly on the end as well as it does when closed?

Writing with it wouldn't pose a problem, but using the cap to extend the length for an icepick grip would be unreliable...

I put a Parker ballpoint gel refill in my 600. Talk about smooth. I love it.

I've got a new version Rotring 600 rollerball in the black finish. The cap has posting problems. I've heard that to get it fixed you can send it off to:

Koh-I-Noor Rapidograph Inc.
Bloomsbury, N.J. 08804-0068
100 Northstreet
P.O. Box 68

Their telephone number is 1-908-479-4124.

I haven't done so myself though. I've come to like the pen a fair bit. Daily carry in a pocket has worn off some of the black surface though. It's glossy black underneath.

Rotring's rollerball refill works quite well, as does Pilot's G2 refills. I think the Rotring brand has a slight edge in terms of smoothness, but the Pilot refills are cheaper and have a transparent body so you can tell how much ink you've got left.

A rollerball has liquid ink that writes similarly to a fountain pen. SOmetimes they can feel scratchy on paper.

A ballopint has a more viscous ink (like your traditional bic pen). They usually write smoother.

Personally I carry a fisher space pen and a sensa chrome (with the space pen refill). Neither has ever failed me.

I have used a rotring 600 for more than 3 years, never had any problems with it. been dropped and smacked around on duty and works great. The clip is very strong and actually was the orig reason i purchased the rotring.
Just purchased the quatro, with black, red, blue ink and.5mm pencil. only used it a few times, but seems to also be good quality.

I just recieved my new model Rotring 600 and I have to say that I'm pleased. This is one heavy duty writing instrument! The cap is a bit wobbly while open but seems to hold on well enough.
Thanks,
Matt
