Rough but what do you guys think of this so far?

That looks really good. I like the comparatively small blade. What steel are you using?. Make sure you post progress photos.

looks like a good start.
I foresee happy times of draw filing and hand sanding in the near future......

Blade is 5160. Handle is just pine right now, I got impatient and decided to put some shape to the big board I am using for mock up. It will be replaced eventually after I get ht done. I still have a lot of work left. I'm pretty bent on keeping this one. I usually edc coldsteels and wanted to make my own edc this time. If you look at my photobucket you should see progress pics that I have so far. I'm very pleased with my plunge cuts on this one.

I like the looks of a rounded spine.
Try a chain saw file for your ricasso lines

chainsaw file will not work the areas are pretty flat and i want to keep them flat. i think i might try chisel grinding some of my extra wood and wrap sand paper around it to try and get in those sharp corners. as for the spine i think rounded will look pretty good. I've also been thinking of trying some jimping on the lock bar but haven't found detailed enough how to's on it. Not to say i haven't found any just non I am satisfied with trying on my lock bar. I've been toying with the idea of some stair step like jimping.
