Rough Rider Lock knife assembly - Forgot Shim

I have recently got into making knives and I attempted my first lock blade assembly using a rough rider kit. Firstly I broke the scale initially so I had to wittle something out of oak. Then when doing the first assembly I forgot to put in the shim for the blade to move freely. Now the knife will not unlock without using a clamp and doesn't go back into lock easily. Any advice or do I place it in the fail corner
