I have recommended Rough Riders to many people. I have a slew. I use them. I think they are great knives. And yet, I've never posted any. Very elitist. I'm aimin' to fix that. Here's my crew. Got them over the last few years. None recently. All great knives. The Whittler has the worst F&F. The rest are really good. And none of them are "bad". Anyway...

The congress was my first RR. The other is my favorite.

Love this small Barlow:

I have another peanut in red bone somewhere??? And the full size trapper??? Maybe I gave them away.

Anyway, now I have righted the wrong in not posting my RR's. Now that I have a few nice users, I don't carry them as much, but they used to get a LOT of pocket time. That congress cut me so bad it was silly. ;)

I have a couple of RR's & they are good 'using' knives & you won't get overly broke up if you mis-place it. Most of the ones I have, I believe I paid under $20 apiece.

Yup, agreed. And great for giving away. I can usually get them for around $10 if I am patient. The one with the razor blade and bail I got for four! It's a really nice knife, too.

I've had very good luck with rough rider's they're not the best knives in the world but at their price point they realy have their own niche that peanut looks pretty cool in that yellow derlin.

I've got a few of them including a congress whittler, a couple of stockman knives, a copperhead (my fav of the bunch) and haven't had any real problems with any of them. I especially like the coppehead; it carries just as good as any brand and I haven't had any problem with the blade steel not holding an edge reasonably well. - Ed J

I have many RR knives and I love them. They do a great heat treat and their F&F is quite amazing considering the price point. I believe they are the very best deal on the market bar none.

Robin

Robin, Does the RR Muskrat have a single back spring?

Hi Rupestris
No it has two fairly heavy back springs. The fileworked back springs are on a muskrat, the "synthstone" line. All the other muskrats have plain springs.

Thanks much .

Nice collection too. I've bought a few modern knives this year so I need to slow my spending a bit. I've been holding out for a Case 6208 Half Whittler for the right price but I'm thinking I might get a RR Half Whittler to tide me over.

I realy like the "congress" three blade whittler, but whittlers are my current favourite pattern. I've been buying early German whittlers lately, love those a lot. Been wanting the case mini copperhead with the pen and wharncliff blades, nice small knife and not too expensive in jigged bone.

Robin

I love shopping for RR on ebay, I have picked up a few for under $6 shipped! I don't bid much but if I win then score, it gives me something to do online plus it is a nice treat to look in the mail box and see a little present.

I heartily recommend the Case mini Copperhead. My top choice for every day carry.

I believe Rough Rider has a version of it out with the clip blade.

I've got 2 RR Half Whitts and I'm very pleased with them. Springs are a little tight but it's an unusual pattern and well worth a try.

Pipeman/Robin I like your show of chequered Bone RRs in green and brown, it's a very decent scale option, same with the Old Yellow.

Ed, RR does a very tidy Mini Copperhead with a clip blade, you are right.

That's what I do. Find one you like. There are a million to bid on. Bid small. Repeat until you score a 5-8 dollar knife with free shipping.

Some favorite Rough Riders.

i just received my first RR today in the mail, it's a small(3-1/4") lady leg with white bone handles. the fit and finish is pretty dang good. the bone is something left to be desired but i might try to make it look purdy. you can even use the heel to open bottles! awesomeness!

Hey Matt. I scrimed a fishnet stocking onto a whitebone leg knife, looked great. The Nickel shoe will get chewed up if you use it as a bottle opener.

Hi Ed
I noticed your Mini copperhead in another thread and your favourable comments about it. It's a very nice small knife. If RR made it with a pointy wharncliff I would grab one, clip points are pretty much my least favourite blade shape. I'm going to grab the case or maybe the Kinfolks/case.

Best regards

Robin

I bet that looked great! I kinda figured a bottle cap would mess it up. Some guy on Ebay had it in the description. good thing you told me before I got alittle buzzed and try it! lol
