Rough Rider & Related Slipjoints

That's a very handsome group of Rough Riders, Laurelbb Laurelbb !:thumbsup::thumbsup:
I'm a sucker for most of the smooth tobacco bone models with the acorn shield. :)
I have a canoe just like yours, shown here with a RR cap:

I'm pretty sure the Dog Bone Jack in my pic above (post 4649) has the Acorn Shield. I'll have to look when I get home. But will admit that RR's Smooth Tobacco is a very pleasant cover.

:( only smooth tobacco bone with acorn shield I have is the RR887 large Sunfish. :) I liked it so much I jumped on a second/backup when I saw it for sale at a truck stop, in Virginia(?) West Virginia(?) or maybe it was one of the Carolinas?

That sounds right, bflying bflying .:thumbsup:
My only "complaint" about RR smooth tobacco bone is that there are apparently two "hues". One is the rich brown as in the recently posted canoes and the first half hawk below, but the other is much paler, kind of a gold/yellow, like the second half hawk below. IMHO, the brown is much more appealing than the gold. The gold is by no means bad, I just prefer the other.

They used to have a neat dog-bone shield.

They call it a "Half Hawk"

I saw this over the weekend and decided to watch it play out, about fell over when I checked back to see the final outcome!
$88.00 plus shipping!!

$88.00 plus shipping was the final.
I don’t know of a RR selling for that kind of money, ever. But I don’t hunt around like some either, just stumbled upon this one.

What was the final outcome?

I guess I cut it off in my photo edit.

No you did't. My fault was not concentrating. Thanks. I have been trying to get one over the net, but cannot, they are not out there anymore. So i suppose if someone really wanted one that is what they were willing to pay.

Maybe add a 3rd "hue" to the mix. Got this tobacco bone sowbelly trapper in the mail a few days ago, more of an appaloosa
bone. Ordered with the intention of dyeing the bone but putting that on hold for now as I'm deciding how well View attachment 1143484 View attachment 1143485 I like the looks of it as is.

Two things made that knife particularly desireable - the Half Hawk blade and the Acorn shield but mostly the Acorn shield. Of course the Smooth Tobacco Bone covers were desireable too but the Acorn shield sold it. And they went fast too. It was kinda like "if you snooze you lose". I snoozed and didn't get one but wish I had and I'm still looking. At any rate, I wouldn't pay $88.00 for one.
