I just bought a Rough Rider Marlin Spike knife and was really surprised at the quality of this China special knife. What is the general opinion Of RR knives? Thanks. :thumbdn:

I've one on the way- need a knife that I don't care about in case Disney decides to start checking. They didn't in March, but just to be sure...

Check out the "Not bad for less than $10" thread about 3 pages back in the Traditional forum (that's right - I'm an internet idiot who doesn't know how to paste a link). Great info on RR's. I've got a Peanut and a Sowbelly, nice knock-around knives.

Surprisingly good for Chinese made, but some of the ones I've seen have had some finishing issues: scales shrinking, cracks, uneven grinds on blades, etc. My single biggest complaint is that every new one I've seen has a lot of grit in the action, apparently buffing compound. SMKW insists that the steel is 440 "series", but I usually can't get them to be specific. The ones I've seen hold an edge ok, and sharpen up pretty easily.

For the money, they're great for every day users. If you want to try them out, try this deal: http://www.eknifeworks.com/webapp/e...hText=grab bag&Search=1&Mode=Text&SKU=RRGRABX

You can get five and give them a good workout.

thx - cpr

Thanks, That sounds like a deal to me. Here is the one I just got.

Some of the better imports, occasionally I see one with bad bone handles, but rarer than when they first came out.

I've noticed that those rigger's knives and a Scout pattern both hit the RR line, right around the time Camillus went kaput, and both seem like old Cam' patterns.

I've got the Sodbuster and I like it you cant tell from the pics on SMKWs website but it has a brass liner lock it's not a bad knife for 10bux.
