Rough Shaping the Blade?

I use cutoff discs on an angle grinder for rough cuts, fine it up a bit with the coote and a 40 grit blaze belt. Then it depends. If I'm forging I take it down with a 240 grit and then under the hammer. If I'm grinding, I just keep on working. I find the blaze belts tend to be uneven cut and go to a norton zirc belt for concave stuff. I've also been known to use an 8 inch bench grinder.

I did not have much luck with my band-saw either. I used a metal cutoff blade on an angle grinder. Then I would finish up profiling with the belt grinder using the 36 grit belt. Just be careful if you use the angle grinder. Face Shield, gloves, and mind that blade real good. Don't set it down until its completely stopped. Just common sense stuff I know. Oh yea, don't drop it with the button locked in the on position. In fact just stay away from that switch if you can! That thing is as dangerous as the buffing wheel! Wear some good boots just in case & learn to be quick on your feet! (Or they may nick-name you "Ole 4 toes!") :o
