Roughen Carbon Fiber?

Hubert: Thanks…Skeletonizing the tang more would be ideal. Not certain how to accomplish that without heating the knife through drilling/grinding, it’s Rc 62. Ideas?
This is HSS steel and about 64- 65 Rockwell. All work are done on hardened steel .Hole are drilled with drill bits for ceramic tile and that ellipse was done in same manner .First I drill two hole , then cutting disk on Dremel to join that holes and after that small grinding stone on Dremel ..............

If it is mine and I want to remove some weight , this is what i would done .........without compromising strength of tang .

If you haven't seen this yet, you may be interested. He builds a lightweight knife designed to baton.

Thanks for this video , I haven't laughed so well in a long time .And I haven't heard so much nonsense in one place in a long time ! So , he batoning wood which was cut with saw on large piece of wood which was cut with a chainsaw. And all that in the wilderness , far away from civilization .Or in park in center of town ,who knows for sure ..........
He is bothered by a heavy knife and he is not bothered by a leather glove which he carries with him and is heavier than a knife ??? Like it !!

Wow, that's impressive! Strong work man. I didn't know you could make that much progress with hard steel and a dremel! I really liked your suggestion for ovalizing my mule and drew it out. What's causing me to doubt, is the cross section that's left in the middle of the handle if I make the oval. An oval would pull the cross section down to just .41 of an inch. Worried that .41" is rather small for a knife that will be batoned. Don't you think that under 1/2 inch is pressing my luck?

You should be fine with .41". You have a better chance of snapping the knife off at the blade than the tang. I have made knives with 1/8" at the tang and have had no issues with breakage.

Natlek, I really liked your suggestion and did it. Happy with the result. Many thanks for pointing the way. The handle may appear to be out of focus, but that's the result of a stonewash of the handle...!

PS: Obviously I've abandoned the CF scales idea for this knife. This one is comfortable as is, skeletonized and all. Having put in the work, I'd like to keep this one as lightweight as possible. It's a lotta blade for 2.4 oz. Will try CF on a future knife...thanks for the advice, folks. Much appreciated.
