We're in Missoula visiting my son who is going to the University there. It's cold, but clear and the views are great. We "roughing" it, staying in the nicest B&B we've seen.

We did some local sightseeing and shopping -- they have great sporting goods stores here. We took a drive down the Bitterroot River valley today. Still too much snow on the trails, but the views are great:

I have to get back this summer.

Great pictures, I've heard lots of good things about the Missoula area. Used to have a relative up there, wish was still alive and living there, could have been some great trips. Someday I'll make it up that way anyway.

Speaking of Montanna, are you familiar with the Beartooth range? Probably one of my favorite places of all time. The highway through there is amazing. Some awesome backpacking in the area, too.

Here's a view from right off the road:

Those mountains sure do look pretty!

I always thought of Montana as one of the prettiest states, I would really like to get there one day!

Did someone mention the Beartooth Pass??

Purple mountain majesty all over the place up there. ;):

Just got back yesterday myself. Kallispell is a nice area but I like Whitefish better.

MMMMMM! Famous Dave's ribs and BBQ.

Skam

Beartooth pass - yeah awesome! Montana, Wymoing, Odaho - I love that area of the U.S. Always makes me thing of the Marlborough man.

Nice pics. Are you sure you weren't "roughing" it there :D

Yeah, sleeping in a fully restored 1890's mansion, down comforters like clouds, and coffee and scones delivered to the bedroom door. I'm on WiFi DSL right now---it's tough out here in the Wild West :D

Wrap your comforter around you tight and pretend you are in a mummy bag :D :D
Hey I envy you - wish I were on the road right now!

If you are driving back to Washington and have time for a few extra miles, consider US12 through Lolo and across into Lewiston Idaho. Beautiful drive along the Lochsa river.

We'll be back in May to pick my son up and we were talking about taking that route. My folks live in Moses Lake, so we're going I-90.

You could hike Western Montana for a lifetime and barely make a dent.

I've spent a lot of time in that area. I love western MT. It is very hard to decide which part to spend time in. Too many beautiful places.

I love it up there too. The wife and I visit a friend in Bozeman sometime. The problem is I never want to leave, but the old lady makes me. Maybe I need a new "old lady". :foot:
