Round Yorkshire With A Knife: A Fine Sunday Morning

Another thank you Jack. I love the ring-opener. I don't think I could ever get to like whistles.

Thanks a lot for the comments folks :)

When does the ring opener with it's own purse date from? And there has to be a story behind the Ripon column or obelisk? The two towns are now on my list for our next visit.

Thank you for the beautiful photography; you finally got the weather you deserve.

Tom

Thanks Tom, the obelisk is the market cross, erected in 1703 to replace an earlier one. I'm less sure of the date of the ring-opener, it's stainless, but Wostenholm made some stainless knives back in the 20's and 30's apparently. I think it's probably post-war though.

aye, very passable, very passable indeed. gotta love locks.:)

I included those for Carl!

I'll just echo what others have said; wonderful photos of a truly lovely locale and some terrific scores too. Any trip that concludes with sitting in the sun beside a river and wetting your whistle with a cold pint (at a place called The Water Rat no less) after just purchasing a few vintage whistles must be considered a success. :D Thanks for taking us along with you again.

Thanks Stephen, it certainly was a very enjoyable morning, and it's nice to be able to share it with friends :)

Thanks for another adventure. I'd like to wet a line in that canal.

Thanks, me too, both canal and river look to be good fishing. When I was a boy I used to have to travel miles and miles to find an unpolluted river, and the canals were too filthy to fish. It's great to see how much cleaner they are today :)

Yes indeed! A great thread. Beautiful pictures on a peaceful day. Thank you for sharing. Best.

Thank you :)

I know you've probably already mentioned it, but what knife is that (not the Diamond Jack).

It's an old Carl Schlieper scout knife, kindly gifted to me by Duncan when we met up in Sheffield. It's a great knife in my opinion, and I often carry it when I'm out walking :)
