Roy's Prince Boudreaux

Thats awesome! Will do. Thanks HD.

For me, there is no more proof needed of a loving higher power than experiencing the love of a dog. Pure undying loyalty in the holiest form.

You beat me to it! :D

Everybody needs a dog. I've never been without one throughout my long life ... couldn't stand it for a minute.

And my wife's even more dedicated.

Your daughter is a lucky girl, Fiddleback. That is one sweet-hearted little pup.

Lordy, you guys are a tough crowd. Here are some from tonight.

I've taken him to two friends that have dogs to begin socializing him with dogs. I have a cat. He's working on that. I think right now its too much fun antagonizing the cat for him. The cat isn't happy about it, but the puppy loves it. Certainly with children he'll get his fair share of learning time too!

Thanks Andy.  :D It's more than apparent that Boudreaux has a great home! I'll never forget when we brought our rescue dog Ace, a Rat Terrier, well mostly anyway, home from his foster home. Even though he had been fostered for a month or so he was not at all socialized to people, or animals!
And he had a deep dislike for men and especially men in caps! After we enrolled Ace in the obedient class at a local dog school he was much improved, more so that we enrolled him in an advanced class which served him, and us, even better.
Ace has been fully socialized to people and animals for a long time now and loves it when "company" comes over. He thinks everyone is coming to see just him and isn't content until he gives everyone a kiss and gets a butt scratch, dog is spoiled rotten.;)
Our daughter came over today and I remarked that as much as I cared for Ace and no matter how smart or how many tricks he could do I still missed my old Airedale Rufus.
But we're not in any condition to have another Airedale with the care and grooming they have to have. Rufus used to "set" in my lap, he would put both front legs and his chest in my lap and would stand keeping his back legs and feet on the floor and would stand that way for hours if I would let him which wasn't all that long because even though he kept his back part off of me it didn't mean he got any lighter! :(
With Rufus and the other three Airedales in the house I didn't have to keep the doors locked! :D

What a great looking dog! I'd love to see him fully grown. And you have such a beautiful family. You are well and truly blessed Andy, just in case you don't know. ;)

Yvsa, I would have loved to see that guy "standing" by you all that time. I'm going to have to search for an Airedale pic. I'm not up on too many breeds and can't place them offhand.

Barkley the Wonder Dog, (the rare _Tibetan pillow hound_ I have mentioned before ) was adopted from the SPCA, and was only partially socialized to other dogs. He does very well now, but I had to let him know forcefully that growling at other dogs wasn't acceptable. If he tried that with some breeds they would take a chunk right out of him.

All I know of his early years is that he was owned by someone for a month, then given to another family for 6 months and left outside all the time. When I got him he had worms, bortadella (kennel cough), fleas, ticks, and skin rashes. It took a while to get him squared away. (Sorry, I just don't get _why_ people get dogs and then chain them outside 24/7.)

To this day the only people I have to watch him around are African American or other folks with more than a little pigment to their skin, as he goes absolutely rabid when he sees anyone who's not lily white. Beats me. Today I had to hold him back with both hands when the UPS guy came. He calms down pretty fast, but something bothers him about the situation, and he sounds positively ferocious, especially for a Lab/Basset mix with 8" long legs. :D

Here's a pic of him getting ready to pounce: (I think he's planning on launching a surprise attack from his hiding place behind the pillow... (-:)

Whenever I think of Boxers I think of Louis Bromfield. One of my heros:

http://www.netwalk.com/~vireo/038.html

If you ever have the chance to read his book Pleasant Valley the boxers are woven throughout his stories.

HD, thanks for this link. I had heard of Bromfield in passing, but had no idea of his impact. He sounds like a great man. I don't think society allows men like this to develop as easily anymore. It takes a certain kind of upbringing and environment to grow a man like that. A shame he died so young.

Here you go Norm....
This is a Linky to several Airedale pics if you want to see lots of varied poses and good examples of temperament... Except for their aggressive state which can be quite intimidating.;) :D

Here's one in what's known as "full bloom" which is their natural un-groomed state.

Airedales have been and are still used for bear and lion hunting, African lion at that!  :D

Sure, I know this breed! Great dogs. I just didn't know what they were called. A neighbor down the street has one, and he's the friendliest dog. I'm glad to hear they are good companions.

This one looks a bit like the Briard (French sheep dog) that I had growing up. Same hair, and face, although the Briard is mostly grey/brown, and their legs are not quite as long. I couldn't take him with me when I headed anywhere but home when I was 18, so just to show me he still held the power, my father (a "Certified Professional P*^&k", as opposed to a mere amateur), had him put down, even though he was still perfectly healthy. He was only about 9 at the time.

Thanks for the pic.

Loved those pics Yvsa. I've always like Airedales!

It was one I was considering, but eventually, my loyalty to boxers kicked in.

I also considered the Giant Schnauser, but I was worried about the kids.

Great dog pics:) Ya know, I was never a "dog person" until my latest dog Rox sort of fell in my lap.

I have no idea what I would do without him. He rides with me to work and keeps me company through the long boring winter work days. He loves to curl up on the couch across my wife's lap in the evenings and keep her warm. His favorite Sunday morning game is "Jump on Dad's head". The wife lets him outside for a few minutes before I roll my lazy bones out of bed. I hear the sliding glass door open up and Bren say, "gogetchadad!!" ROMP ROMP ROMP WHUMP! I'm hit with 25lbs of mutt as I hide my head under my pillow as he roots and paws his way under the covers to lick my face. Ya know, I actually stay in bed a little extra longer just so that he can play his little game. It's the little things in life, ya know:)
