RR Spike tomahawk

That shows great promise as a beautiful useful hawk. I, personally, would have spread the spike head towards the center for; 1. more material at the hole and; 2. nicer pole configuration and; 3. possible balance improvement. You are reading the unrequested critique of someone who is neither a knife/hawk maker nor an iron shaper but if I have nothing else I do have an opinion. That said the hawk is a classy, unique piece and will certainly become either a useful field implement or hold a top level place in a collection.

Thanks for your critique, but I mainly go for more in the looks dept.:),if I was making one more for the use aspect I probably would spread the blade both ways and make a wider blade. The thing with the spikes is the lack of material to work with. Thanks for the compliment---Best Regards Butch

I met Butch today guys, and got to see a bunch of his work "up close and personal". I took one "to the house", as a matter of fact! :)

I KNOW it sounds like a cliche these days on these Internet forums to say this but, I can attest TRUTHFULLY:

1. Butch IS a good soul (so is his wife), AND,
2. His blades really show "character" and are practical, and I predict he wont have a problem finding buyers...

(I was even ready to buy a "spike" knife as a spare "user"...the lines of the blade and it's geometry, as well as the overall balance and feel blended in the hand nicely...I could see it doing backup duty QUITE NICELY!)

I'll admit to not being into 'hawks as much as "user knives" but I was DULY IMPRESSSED with Butch's hawks.

This wood is nicer in person than the photo shows also... I almost argued with Butch when he told me that it WAS NOT some exotic hardwood...

The only thing I will do different next time is to wear old clothes so I can roll around with Dixie...

Well...that's all for now...

<going to closet to dig out my DVDs of The Patriot and Last of the Mohicans>
