My duty pants have a thin appendix pocket that the prototype for this knife fits in well. This has become my new personal EDC fixed blade at work. Discreet, and unassuming, the SCREET packs a punch in performance. The edge geometry gives fine cutting performance with bevels cut to near zero (like nearly all of my blades), and enough belly to remain functional as an outdoor/hunting knife, while the distal taper and unsharpened swedge maximizes precision at it’s point. This combo makes it hard to beat in a knife so diSCREET. Add the killer classic colors on this particular setup, and I think it’s a winner.

Steel: 1084, HT by me, quenched in Parks 50, tempered to 57HRC, high flat ground, distal taper, 3.65" long and 1.8" thick at the ricasso. Hand cut jimping gives adequate thumb purchase without being uncomfortable in an ungloved hand. Machine Finished (scotchbrite VF). Forge scale flats.
Scales: Forest Green G10 base, White phenolic spacer, then a Ghost Jade G10 layer adds the crowning layer. It has been shaped to allow the green/white to peek through the jade at the edges. I think it looks pretty interesting. Reminds me of my favorite canoe, an Old Town from the sixties hand laid out of fiberglass.
OAL:7.1"

Thanks Bill!

John - Wow, thanks for being on point with that. It's the first time I've written out a description and neglected the HT info. I normalize in the following sequence 1 x 1600F, 2 x 1550F, 1 x 1500F. The blades are rapidly ramped to temp, then air cooled to black between each stage. This refines grain structure and normalizes the steel. It is then heated to critical and quenched in a commercial quenchant optimized for this steel. In the case of a hypereutectoid like 1084, it's Parks 50. It is immediately tempered twice with a rapid cooling after each tempering cycle. If any warps exist, they are corrected with a jig and another temper. The bevels are finish ground and the steel is tested for hardness, then the cutting edge is flexed against a brass rod to verify the resulting qualities remain true.

Nice knife. Perfect size. Wish more makers offered a compact edc that has enough room for a four finger grip. A knife this size is easy to carry in your front pocket. Very useful.

Thanks very much for the detailed info on the heat treat method! That is a handsome knife!! Very nice!
