RTAK 2 or ranger knives RD9

Here it is. The finish looks better in person than in pictures. The grip had a couple of sharp edges which I knocked down with some sandpaper. The edge bevel is a little uneven from the belly to the tip, but it arrived pretty sharp so I'll just reprofile when I need to sharpen. It's a real solid chunk of steel, but not too heavy. The balance is slightly toward the blade....ought to be a good chopper.

I love my RTAKII, but plan on getting an RD9 as well - that being said, I want to take a second to show off my RD7, which I recently blued:

Nice-lookin' knives, the both of you.

I did a little sanding on the "bird's head" of the grip of my RD9.

The recurve does look nice.

I got one of the bright, convexed ones. :)

which edge will last longer

Most RD's are made of 5160, known for resistance to impact. I think the RTAK II is just out in 1095. IIRC, 1095 was developed for plows and harrows, so it's no slouch for impact resistance if done tight. Not sure the abrasion resistance difference would be something that you would notice, but the edge, in theory, should go to 1095.

Both should be relatively easy to sharpen.

Try to get the handles in your hands before buying. The right "feel" is very personal.

The RTAK II is about 3/16" thick. The RD is about 1/4" thick.

What is that shorter fixed blade on the right in your picture?
Man seeing that Rukus in there sure puts things in perspective!
