RTAK or Brute?

I'm pretty new here - looking for a good outdoor knife for under $100. Seems like the Becker Brute (hard to find huh?) and the Ontario RTAK are talked about often. Which would you suggest for a good, all purpose, outdoor knife?

FWIW, the RTAK II (as compared to the original RTAK) has an improved handle, so if you get an RTAK it might be best to go with the new flavor. The original was sorta large and rectangular, and just not optimal.

cheers

Im a fan of becker, more than ontari at least. I'd go or the becker, but thats me

hands down becker, though i will speak highly of mike p's customer serv with the rats.... i snapped my rtak in half and he sent me a new one after reading my thread on it

You want a machete? That's basically what an RTAK is. You can get machetes for alot cheaper and, for their purposes, you're wiser to do so, in my opinion.

Now, if you're after a medium-large fixed blade for under $100, I'd say stick with Ontario, but go to their RAT series. RAT-5 or RAT-7. Even the TAK-1 is a nice knife. All for under $100.....and they're NOT cheap knives but rather solid, functional, affordable fixed blades.

Good luck.

Well... I ordered the RTAK II about half an hour ago for $90 in w/ the green handles. I didn't have any luck finding a Becker, but plan on tracking one down eventually! I really am looking for a chopper, as I have quite a few smaller all purpose knives. I appreciate the comments, and am glad to hear that customer service is good w/ the RATs. I hope I don't break mine in half! I have a couple of cheaper machete's as well, but wanted a larger quality blade. My Camillus USMC kind of covers that 7" range blade... If I really like the RTAK, I'll check out a RAT 7 though! Thanks again for the comments.
