Rtak2 broken...

I shipped the broken one back too Ontario Knife... 3weaks ago... so i have too look i´ve i found some picture´s from the breakingpoint...

Carsten/Morales is my reliable witness that we have testet the blade month ago in the woods near my home in hard wood...withe non demage on the blade...

There are definitely photos which show the broken RTAK but maybe Kay will post them himself or I ask him if I can. The knife broke close to the handle, where the serrations start.

Very interesting. Perhaps stress risers are another good reason not to use serrations on fixed blades.

my RAT 7 also got problem last week. I chopped a fish (2 kg) with bamboo raft below the fish....my RAT chip off the steel.

I think harder steel make it easier to broke or chipp off the blasde

Guten tag !
The solution is called the Busse Bushwacker Battle Mistress...
Get one before it is too late !

I chipped out my RTAK a couple of years ago. I was just chopping some spruce when I noticed the knife had a dime sized chip near the middle of the blade edge. Needless to say it should not have done that. Instead of sending it back I put the knife in a vice and applied some pressure with help from a steel pipe. The knife snapped in two fairly easy. My guess is some of the early RTAKs were not properly heat treated and were therefore pretty brittle. I think Ontario has fixed that problem for the most part, although I have not purchased another one since. Good luck with the new one and let us know how it goes.
