One of my favorite tactical awareness exercises is to spot and identify folders with a clip. It's fun to try to ID what knife someone is carrying based on the clip style and what little (or much) is sticking out of the pocket.

Last night at the store I instantly spotted a guy carrying a Buck Odyssey. Definitely the easiest ID I've ever done, since he was wearing the knife clipped to the outside of his front pants pocket. Probably a Father's Day gift, since it looked brand new. I'm sure he just assumed he should wear it like his pager.

Here in my city (Davao, Southern Philippines) I ahve only spotted two persons carrying folders clipped to their pants.

One carried a zytel Endura, and the other a Buck E-Z Out.

Its really exciting to see some carry. I would've approached them except I was busy at the time.

That's not a difficult thing to do, I find I do it without even thinking about it. It does however, make me wish that companies would decorate the clips better, maybe with colorful logos or anodizing, like the William Henry G10 Lancet.

Only time I've been able to do that was earlier in the summer at a concert. A guy went crowd-surfing over my head, and he had one of the Spyderco knives with the black rubber on the outside of the clip, could have been a Civilian.

I like my women like I like my knives: strong, sharp, well-formed and pattern-welded!

I've started doing this in the last 6 months or so, too, and am surprised about how many people I spot around school (it's a doctoral program, not a high school!) carry knives with clips. all carry the knife inside the pocket, though. I have spotted a couple Benchmades for sure, and maybe a Spyderco or two, but there is one I see everyday that I know I should know, but can't quite place it. The clip is held under the pivot screw, and there is a tab of metal bent over with a hole in the handle material for it, basically to keep it from shifting laterally too much. Gerber, maybe? Dunno.

Chiro, sounds like a REKAT clip.

When in doubt, guess EZ-Out (Gerber), as these are very common. Sold at Wal-Mart, etc.

Yep. I see a lot of Gerber EZ Outs round here too. They're easily accessed like you said, and inexpensive. I met a good friend for the first time in a restaurant here in Richmond, Va. He owns the restaurant and I've seen him on different occasions with four different type Benchmades clipped in his pocket. I approached him, gave him my card, and told him if he wanted a fifth or tenth for that matter to call me. The rest was history. Has anyone noticed that no other candy tastes quite like Pez?

I was thinking REKAT, too, but the demographic and geographic location are all wrong. I don't know anyone who knows REKAT, so it would really surprise me if that's what it was. IF it is, I wished I would've asked to see it to see their work for myself! Doh!

Gerber's EZOUT uses a clip with a small tab that fits into a slot in the handle...I also find it amusing, just who has a little clip poking out of his/her pocket...The most common one i see is the thick black plastic clip of a second-generation, pre-98 Spydie Endura/Delica/Rescue...Spydie also used black shiny clips while BM uses a dull black clip...
