Rubber Handle Mod

I like. Looks very clean. I'm assuming this is done with heat? Any problems with burning/charring the rubber?

As one who loves when someone mods a knife to make it uniquely their own, I admire and applaud your work on that handle. Your motivation to make it artistic worked very well IMHO. Something in that pattern reminds me of tank art I've seen on Harleys (the *other* great American Hogs ;) :D ).

Like Uyotg, I wonder how that feels (especially for long-term handling like all-day fish gutting or deer carcass breakdowns), how much it would accumulate food particles/smutch, and how readily it will clean.

One thought I had is that it looks upside down. Usually I like texture on the bottom of a knife handle like on the EKA W11 knife as shown, versus on the upper parts of the handle as your beautiful craftsmanship lays on the Res-C handle.

On the hand parts contacting the bottom of a knife handle, pressure/friction is dissipated by the padding of finger muscles under the skin, which prevents focused "hot spots" from developing on the skin. The contact points of a hand on the top of a knife handle are more typically, to steal a phrase, "just skin and bones". (think knuckle joining thumb and first finger to the hand bearing against handle on a forceful draw cut) That allows pressure to press/rub skin against bone without as much padding, which can lead to focused pressure bringing on bruises or blisters.

Your stippling looks like it may be shallow enough or Res-C could be pliable enough that it would prove a moot concern. I'll be interested in hearing how this texture pattern works long-term in usage, particularly hard-use applications.

Nonetheless, let me reiterate how well I think you designed and executed that mod. My hat's off to ya Brudder Dave!!!

Thank you for all the kind words.

It seams to clean up pretty easy, as it still has the non stick properties it had before.
The heat really just allows the material to flow around the heated probe, thus just moving the material and when it cools down it is as solid as before.

Go fast and do not touch the worked area til it cools down

Mainly the pattern was decorative, but I also did not want the textured part where my forefinger rests.

I think I may do a Tan B4LE tomorrow and do the whole handle this time :)

Oh and it does work on kydex but wear a respirator as the fumes are bad for you.

I think we should call it the "David Brown" mod.

I will definitely do this to my next piece of Res-C.

Soldering iron and about 5 minutes for me.

wow you are fast.
You know the rules, Pics or it did not happen :)

I used a wood burner. and it took me about 30 min to an hour to do it with the design.
