I remember reading someone's post that if you rub the medium grit sharpmaker stones together for 5 min before you use it the first time they work best. Anyone care to explain why that is?
1. Ensure they are flat and no dings, mirror images of each other.
2. Expose the surface completely.
3. Roughen them up. They are pressed and cooked ceramic When you get them there can be a "glaze" effect.
