RUCKI is HERE!!! (Pic HEAVY)

In the immortal words of Jerry Busse, I'm about to go break in my Rucki and "beatr it oike sotle it!"

Pics to come :D

And I'm back, with pics

Here's what I brought with me: FFBM, Ontario 22" machete, and the Rucki. The 657 tagged along :D

So close to being used.....

Closer..........

And used

These were the first 3 hits with the Rucki, the log was too hard and the Rucki didn't have enough mass to bite in

Here's what the Ontario machete did to a 2" vine

And what the Rucki did to the same vine

Here's what 5 or 6 whacks each did to the same fallen tree

Spine shot

Flex test

I REALLY like this color combo, it's pretty camo  :D

And I really like the looks of dirty desert sage, it looks like it's a Terror Monkey Rucki :D This coating may last longer than I first thought

Edge retention after chopping, well, it has the Swamp Rat heat treat so it was still there

The Rucki is great for brush, sticker bushes, and small green trees (2" and below in a single swipe). However for the big stuff it doesn't have the mass to really bite in, it bounces off well seasoned stuff. But, maybe a little edge work it will bite in pretty well. The Rucki is super fast, so fast in fact I developed a blister on my hand and burst it too, but it's been a while since I did some heavy chopping.

The Ontario is a beast, 22" of 1095 and it's pretty sharp however, there is too much forward weight on it and you can loose control easy if you take a strong swing (that's how I gashed my leg open with it).

The FFBM is just a classic that I brough along because it hasn't sen much action in about a month, and I brought it along for size comparison.

The Rucki is light and would be a machete that you could pack around all day and not notice, it's SUPER fast so it makes up for the thinness and the handle is just big enough for me to get both hands on it (and I have decently large hands, but nothing on the XL or XXL size) and the Rucki really chops when using both hands :D (it's a tad awkward at first and I kept having leg sliced open flashbacks)

I need to get used to it but the Rucki has some real potential I think.

Oh, you know when I mentioned how I think the Rucki would make a decent thrower, well......... so far I haven't got the rotation down :o

And, I still think it'll be a beast for zombies.

I also plan to do a little batoning with it tomorrow.

I like the shape of the tip.... thats gonna be my justification to get one and still keep the waki.

how is there no pics of a waki and rucki back to back!?!

When you guys say fast, like machete fast?

A lot faster. The balance point of the Rucki (micarta) is pretty much right where the SW logo is, and being that the handle is as heavy as the blade, it acts like an extension of your arm and moves very smooth and quickly. A machete is generally blade heavy (my Ontario is anyway) so you're swinging your arm and the blade follows, which is great for chopping power, but it wears you out quicker and takes longer to recover from each swing.

The Rucki just feels natural in your hand.

On a side note, I just got done reprofiling the blade to 25 degrees instead of the 27-28 it came with, now I really can't wait to try it out :D

Great pics:) Can't wait to get mine:)
Al

Okay, got some more pics for you after the reprofiling it to 25 degrees, here's what the edge can do

Comparison shot before the chop

After 2 chops (first one glanced off)

After some more chops

And I figured what the hell, I had it with me and it might as well join the fun :D (told you it could chop dericdesmond ;) )

And some batoning pics

Edge test again (conducted on the part of the blade that saw the most chopping action, and the part that batoned)

I probably could have done more impressive chopping if I didn't have the blister on my right hand (I don't feel comfortable using my left arm to chop with it either, I'm uncoordinated :o )

I'm just impressed with the coating, tanker grey and black crinkle seem to come off easy, the desert sage takes the beating

Great pics:) Can't wait to get mine:)
Al

I can't wait for you to get your either, I need a sheath! :D

Sure, why not, dericdesmond could always use an extra $300 of debt :p

Cant wait to see it in the flesh.

Nice pics Ham67, love the flex shots

I can bring mine to KC if you want, we can go into the woods by the hotel  :D

Nice job on the edge!:thumbup: These bigger blades perplex me on sharpening...

OutFreakingStanding! Thanks for posting the pictures RATs and a big congrats to everyone who got there's.

Ok....now that I got the sappy pleasantries out of the way.....Where the FreakingHell is mine Bully!?!

.

The kissaki on those is better than I expected. Handles are very long, but the counterweight is probably nice. I definitely dig it.

So what will this retire... shorty choppers (Junglas and BM included), machetes, and escrima sticks.

What is won't retire... sashimi knives.

Still totally worth it.

Man, hardly seeing any user Rucki pics :(

I guess I'll post some more :D

I had the day off today, and I had firewood to split, so I figured I'd get some pics with the Rucki, but first...

I swapped a cardboard tube from work that they were going to throw away, and I figured what the hell, looks good enough to chop :D

If you've ever handled this stuff, you know it's tough and thick.

And here's the Rucki, sporting an AZWelke pair of pants

I wedged the tube in pretty solid

And the first swing

And to my surprise, it maganged to cut the tube completely in two

That was the only time I managed to get it through in 1 swipe, this is after some more chopping

After a while, I magaged to make a Rucki cardboard shish kabob

And, what the hell

The flexing was more impressive in person, you can only do so much at one time while trying to make sure a sharp sword doesn't spring back at you

After the flexing, it had a slight curve for a couple seconds, but it's straight now

Sometimes, I can't tell if it's bent or not. But it's still in one piece which is good enough for me :D

I did start to baton with it, but the wood was pretty damn tough and I didn't want to get wore out before I split it. I even used an old fiberglass handle off an old maul that I broke the head off of as a baton. I managed to dent the fiberglass pretty good :o

I'm dying to try mine out Ham67... I've had it since the first ones started going out and I have not had ONE SINGLE CHANCE to take it out somewhere nice to f### some stuff up...

the time is coming soon :D

(I have to go somewhere specific for this, I don't live in a "sword friendly" environment :p)

Fantastic photos! Really looks like a well thought out piece. Got my shipping notice today! :D Bad news - I won't be home till next week!! :(
