Ruger 1022 question

I have gone over 1500 in one day without cleaning with no problems. I guess to answer the op's question just lock the bolt open and shoot the hell out of it with break free. Shoot a little on a toothbrush and scrub the bolt face making sure to get by the extractor. That will keep u going for long time.

Disassembly involves loosening two slotted screws to remove the stock (one just ahead of the mag well, the other at the barrel band). Then the trigger group can be removed by pushing out a couple of pins and the bolt can be lifted out with your fingers after pushinig out a third pin. It's super quick and easy.

I used to clean mine very frequently when I first had it, but now I shoot it less often and clean it maybe once every year or two.

I've got one 10-22 that I got n the mid '90's that's had thousands of rounds through it & I've NEVER cleaned it. Still runs like a Swiss watch !

You guys are awesome! Thanks for all the helpful info. The action on my old model 60 has always felt tight, it sounds like it must be a freak. Do you guys that have both find the Marlin to be as reliable as long as the 1022 between cleanings? Do you find it as easy to clean? Disassemble? Mine is harder to disassemble and reassemble than it sounds like the 1022 is but maybe the newer ones are different.

I grew up shooting a model 60 until I could buy my own 10/22 - never looked back.
model 60 is a nightmare to tear down and service. Fun shooter, though.

Seriously, gunmakers are like the knifemakers here most times. If it isn't working right and especially if you bought it recently they usually take them back and fix them free. If it's an older gun that you got used look on the net there has got to be 10/22 forums and there will be guys that know exactly what is wrong and can walk you thru exactly how to fix it. I would contact Ruger first they even may fix an older gun for a nominal fee.
