Closest I've come to that type of weapon was a 4" S&W 500. It's larger and heavier than the Ruger. It's chambered in a larger caliber, but has porting. The Smith was not that bad to shoot.
I suspect the Ruger in 454 casul will not be fun to shoot. You can practice some with 45LC. The Alaskan has a very specific purpose, personal protection against 4 legged predators. It's not meant to be a long range gun, nor pleasant to shoot for extended periods of time.
