I finally got a Ruger Little Crappy Pistol (LCP) and had a chance to try it last Thursday. I set up a target, standard 6" bulls eye, at 7 yards. I carefully aimed at the center and after a long and gritty trigger pull, it went bang. Dang! I missed the entire target and cardboard backing!:( I fired two more rounds and could see them in the 9 ring at 7 o'clock. :) I took another look and son of a gun! The first shot was right through the zero in the 10 ring. :D That's why I couldn't see it at first. I fired the next 3 rounds in the magazine and they were all in the black a bit low and to the left.

I fired 18 more rounds and wish I could say that they were also in the black, but things went down hill from there. The skinny grip was abrading the web of my hand and I started flinching enough so that the rest were low and to the left, but still on the paper and in the scoring rings.

All I can say is that it functioned perfectly with cheap CCI Blazer ammo and is more then accurate enough for it's intended purpose.

BTW, the main feature that I like over the Kel Tec P3AT is that you can lock the slide open. That's an important feature when shooting at a range.

Too small for my large hand , nothing to hold on to ! They've had two recalls .Later manufacture then should be better.

I heard of one recall..hadn't heard of the 2nd.
I have an LCP and like it. I just can't find enough ammo to feed it. Mine resides in either a Sharktac kydex holser or a Stoner Leather holster.

That's true. I can only get 2 fingers around the grip, but it's not a target pistol. It's a pocket pistol for use close-up and personal.

It's also true that Ruger had a few problems with it, but they are not alone. Kahr, S&W, Colt and others have had problems with their handguns and some were recalled. Ruger, at least, handles theirs very professionally.

Sadly, multiple recalls seems to be the name of the game with Ruger. I recall this on a couple of other models of theirs. Too bad. But like Uffda said, at least they handle them well.

A diamond shape is stamped on the back of the slide below the hammer to indicate those guns which are post-recall, so it is easy to determine what you have.

I carry an LCP about 20% of the time (pocket carry), and it has been great. Its what I carry when I don't want even the slightest pocket bulge from my 442, like at church and other "dress up" occasions. Functions 100% on those itty bitty .380 Golden Sabers. I love Golden Sabers. Its not a target gun by any means, and certainly has its limitations, but I sure would not want to catch a belly full of .380 Golden Sabers from 5 feet, you know?

I had a Kel-Tec P-32 and carried it for quite a few years but when I upgraded in caliber I decided the increase to 380 wasn't worth it and went with a Kel-Tec P-11 in 9mm. This isn't bad for pocket carry but I went ahead and bought a Kel-Tec PF-9 for the pocket. The PF-9 is 1/2 inch longer and 1/2 in ch taller than the LCP. However it is a 9mm, holds 7+1, is only 1/10th of an inch thicker, and allows for a better grip. And the price is equal for either more or less. My favorite carry for it is not in my pocket however...my PF-9 normally gets stuck in a Kramer Confidential T-Shirt or one of it's clones from Sportsman's Guide. It is in deep cover there and serves as a BUBUG to my primary BUG which of course backs up my primary carry gun.

The Ruger has had recallitis of late...seems they are allowing their customers to do the final R&D. I know quite a few folks that feel it is best to wait at least a year ofter a new Ruger hits the market before buying one. There isn't any real reason the LCP shouldn't serve as a BUG...I just prefer the extra punch of the 9mm.

I'm quite content with mine. Recoil is noticeable but this isn't a gun I bought b/c it is fun to shoot. Accuracy is more than acceptable for intended purpose - the sights make abundantly clear it isn't designed for precise shooting. I'd buy it again, despite having to send it in for recall repair.

Looked at one at a gun show and really liked the looks of it and I like small semi autos in general, however I'll probably never buy one because I can only get one finger on the grip and I don't have huge hands, but probably larger than average. For someone with hands small enough to grip the thing I bet it'd be a great gun.

Here's the LCP in my hand. I can get almost all of 2 fingers on the grip. It doesn't seem to be a problem so far.

how does it differ from the Keltec P32

Slightly "better" caliber with the Ruger (compared to the P32 that is), and folks seem to be in general agreement that the LCP feels more substantive and seems to be more of a quality build than the P32. Thats my read on it anyway, and it jives with my own experience having carried a P32 for many moons and now having the LCP. Size wise, they are very, very close.

The small grip issue with these guns cuts both ways. It also makes the gun extremely easy to pocket carry, which is what these guns will be doing 99.99% of the time instead of being at the range.

FWIW, I was a Kel-tec groupie for a long time. Part of the "fun" of owning a Kel-tec was doing the fluff and buff on it to get it 100% reliable.

Ah, thanks. I've carried a P32 for about 4 years, it never needed a "F & B". I have found that it needs to be kept lubricated, which can sometimes be a problem when combined with pocket carry.

This is my LCP and I love it (primarily for summer carry).

I've added:

The Crimson Trace Laser - http://www.crimsontrace.com/Home/Products/Ruger/LG431/tabid/361/Default.aspx

The following three items from - http://www.elsiepeaforum.com/store.htm

1. A Handall Jr. Small size Grip Sleeve
2. Pearce PG-LCP2 Plus 2 Extensions - (shown inserted in the pistol)
3. Pearce PG-LCP Finger Extension (no addl. rounds)

I have also added a Nightsighter, glow-in-the-dark, dot to the front blade. http://www.nitesiters.com/?gclid=CMy81KC--JsCFdZM5QodVA1Y_Q

All carried, most often, in my own DIY Pocket holster.

For those like me, who have large hands, the Handall and Pearce Plus 2 Extensions make this much friendlier at the range. The standard Pearce finger extension (which does not add ammo), is also helpful (but for me, not as comfortable as the Plus-2).

All these additions are nice, but don't they destroy the mission of this type of gun - to be unseen, discreet and low profile until needed? Seems to me if you're going to hang all that stuff off the gun you might be better off with something bigger.

i agree, with all the extensions and such ya are probably getting close to the size/weight of a kahr PM9 which is a lot better defensive pistol,

Actually, no... It far from "destroys the mission" of this gun... the additions actually enhance it's shooting and accuracy abilities while STILL providing the smallest "pocket package" available (that I am aware of... derringer's excluded;)). It's still smaller than anything else, including the PM9.

It's thinner (even with the Handall... which adds less than a 1/16th).

The laser only adds length forward of the trigger guard (who cares?) and doesn't effect width or length.

The Plus 2 extension adds an inch to butt length (but even with it inserted it still doesn't print).

Using the standard Ruger mags, (which IIRC now all come standard with the curved bottom finger extension), add less than one-half inch.

Would it be more "effective" if it were chambered in 9mm? Sure... and it'd be even better if it were filled with .45 or .357... especially if I'm shooting at a target in a heavy leather, winter coat, that's 50 feet away.

The target in a t-shirt and shorts that's 10 feet away however, isn't going to appreciate the .380 HP to the forehead or chest.

I carry this package primarily in summer, in terry-cloth shorts and it doesn't print. Stick it into the top of your boxer-shorts and it won't print:D (seriously... I've carried it in swim trunks).

Even as presented in my pics, I'd put it up against anything (less a derringer size pistol) as far as conceal-ability goes.

I've found nothing else to work so well in light-weight summer weight clothing (PM9 included).

As the weather cools, and I switch to heavier clothing (and so do my targets), the LCP becomes the backup to my Glock/Ruger SP-101 combo.

I'd like an LCP in .22 cal. :)

I have a friend who has... I think it's a little S&W pistol in .22 cal.. Now that I think about it, it's actually smaller than my LCP (but it's only a .22!!:D).... great if you're being attacked by a small rat or skunk.:D:D
