Ruger Mark III vs. Browning Buckmark

I have them both and as much as I would recommend the Buckmark, I like the Mark III more. They are both great to shoot but I just like the feel of the Ruger more. Where the gap separates for me is in aesthetics. To me, the more you look and hold the Mark, the more it grows on you... Its the exact opposite for me with the Buckmark. Shoots great, but dont like looking at it lol. But performance wise, you cant go wrong either way.

If you can swing it get a Smith and Wesson 41. My father got one for a steal a couple years back and damn is that thing a tack driver the takedown is the best for matience that I've seen yet.

I have owned several Rugers and several Buckmarks through the years, and still have 3 Buckmarks and 2 Rugers but the Rugers are Mark IIs. I had a Ruger Mark III Bull Barrel with the finger grooved Altamont grips. A beautiful gun and felt great in my hand but it just wasn't accurate even after a trip to Rugers shop. I think that was just a one in a million lemon.

I think as several have stated you really can't go wrong both are great guns and fun to shoot. Yes the Ruger is a bit more difficult to disassemble and clean but after you do it a few times it isn't bad at all. There are many videos on youtube to show tips and Midway carries a small tool to make it easier that is less then $10.00.

I prefer the Mark IIs over the newer Mark IIIs but I also prefer the older Buckmarks over the newer guns.

My only advice would be to go with the one that appeals most to you and feels best in your hand as any firearm that feels comfortable to you ... you will shoot better then those that don't fit and feel as good. I would also just say that if you are considering putting a scope on it ever I much prefer the Buckmarks to scope.

here are a few of mine a Ruger Mark II a Browning Buckmark Plus Micro and a Buckmark Eclipse.

What's wrong with a scoped Ruger?

Theres nothing wrong with them. I just prefer the options Ive found for the Buckmarks and can remove them for cleaning and remount without loosing point of impact. And there may be some similiar options for the Rugers. Was just my personal experiences.

Ruger 22/45 (with more upright grip angle):

Note how grip angle is more akin to Buckmark:
