Just placed an order for a new, satin finish, plain edge Rukus 610 and also ordered some of the ivory micarta handles for it. I'm planning to dress it up a bit by polishing the black G-10 down to a smooth surface and then match up the ivory micarta to it. I'm also going to polish the liner edges, standoffs, and the axis bar. On the axis bar I'm also going to shorten it a little so there will not be so much sticking out on either side. I'll polish out the blade by simply polishing it over and over and over. I also have some 3M stair tape that I'll cover the clip with. I recently sold the other Rukus I had, and these mods had been done to it, along with profiling the blade tip a bit-------sorta gave it a Osborne 940 look, and only did that due to the tip rounding, as I believe I'll leave the blade factory on the one I have coming. I'm hoping that it will turn out nice, and if so, I'm going to get a Rukus 615 along with some ivory micarta handles for it and do the same for a matching pair.

At the same time I ordered the Rukus I also ordered a Timberline Bush Pilot axe. I've been wanting to order one for a while but never found them in stock until now. I'm already thinking about replacing the zytel stocks with some micarta from Knifekits.com.

Anyway, thats my story, and I'm sticking to it!:D :D :D

I'm thinking about those Ivory scales, and the silver ones, and the CF ones, and the wood ones.....

Eric.

I sold the last one and there were pics of it on the -bay. A search there should pull it up. I'll definately try to get some pics up after I've worked on it a while. I really think that ivory micarta is going to look great on this knife!

Tried, couldn't find it with -bay search or google.

I'd still like to make some inserts out of halved deer antler. It wouldn't pocket so well, but it would look great.

sounds pretty cool i just hope you dont mess it up Cause i probally would. Id like to see some pics too, but i think ill keep my ruckus like it is

Just got the Rukus. Wanted to get an idea of how the grips would look so I went ahead and changed out the grips, installing the micarta ivory. WOW, it really stands out with the contrast between the white/black! I have completely disassembled the Rukus and will begin with the liner edges and do a satin finish on them. The black G-10 will require some lower grit paper to sand out the stirations and get it down to a smooth surface, and then finish up with some 2000 grit wet/dry. The ivory micarta should be fine with some 800 grit and finish with 2000 grit. I have already removed the black from the standoffs (3) and from the axis lock bar. The underlying color is a bronze color which looks pretty neat. Used a dremel tool with a steel brush wheel to do this.
One other thing I want to note has to do with the blade edge; it came shaving sharp and I hit it on my Sharpmaker for 5 passes per side and the knife slices through newspaper like crazy with no tears or rough edges left behind and when shaving hair the hairs literally pop off and fly up in the air. Sharpest knife I've received in a very long time!!

I'll get back as I progress...............:D

I'm going to try and set up an account on a photo hosting site and then take some pics that I can post. I'm actually almost through with the knife. I sanded down the black G-10 and got all those striations out, and once that is done you have a look like finely polished wood with the growth rings. I finished the liners as I am only working the edges of them, and then I put it back together. What I'm doing now and will continue to do is to keep polishing the scales and liners using some 2000 grit paper that doesn't do anything in a hurry but does improve the looks over time. I'm telling you, and hoping to soon show you, that the ivory micarta is a great looking add on. Once sanded the micarta polishes up nicely and looks like real ivory. So, I'm just continuing to polish the knife, using a polishing compound on the blade to acheive that satin finish, as I watch TV. Hope to get back soon with some pics.

A little update on this knife. Don't have pics yet but working on it. I have continued to work on the handle materials, G-10 and ivory micarta, with some worn out 2000 grit paper. The ivory micarta is starting to look like the real thing as I continue to polish. Can't wait to get some pics up so you can see the contrast with the black G-10 and ivory micarta. I added a black paracord laynard to it that contrast real nicely. Really thinking about getting another 610 with the plain BK coated blade and some of the silver twill grips for it.

Back later with some pictures.

Try photobucket. They're free and easy to link to from forums like this one. You can edit the size of your pictures so they're not too big also.

I'd like to see some progress pictures and the end result.
