This morning I posted "I'll take it" on a sale's thread that had no other post except a "message sent" that was posted yesterday. I also sent the seller a PM informing him of same. Literally a minute after my post the seller edits his original sale's post with "SPF". Assuming I got it, I waited for him to send me his payment info but when I didn't get anything, I again PM'ed him asking for it. A little while later he sends me a message saying thanks but its been sold. WTH?!?

Rule #13 states you should mark your sale's threads as sold after selling the item. Maybe there should be a time limit imposed within which you should do it as well? I don't know. It's not that big a deal I know, but it sure is annoying.

I don't see anything wrong here. The seller was contacted by another buyer before you and likely some negotiation was underway. Once the price and payment method were agreed to, the seller posted "SPF'.
A seller should deal with offers to purchase in the order that that are received and it seems as though that is what occured here.

As well, the seller is not obligated to sell to the first I'll take it, they are allowed to choose who to send it to. It does get frustrating at times- every time I have had a deal in place (finalized) for a Busse the seller has changed his mind and sold to another party. I'm just happy in all 3 cases that I had not sent the funds yet. It is frustrating at times, but remember that they are only knives and there are many more out there to find.

Yes it can be disappointing. Technically no foul was committed, perhaps the seller could have updated the thread sooner but then again, perhaps things just weren't clear yet. It wasn't personal, you missed out. Better luck next time. ;)

It isn't unusual for folks to contact the sell via PM or email without posting anything in the thread, so the discussion could have been underway when you posted. I don't know about other sellers, but I usually take care of contacting the prospective buyer first. Once I've verified that the offer is legitimate, I'll post SPF in the thread where the price was. I don't do it before I have verified that the person is going to take the knife because I don't want folks to think it has been sold when it might still be available. I don't wait for the money to show up in my paypal account, just long enough to verify the offer. I've run into your situation when I've been looking to buy - no response to contact, slow responses, seller posted "sold" when I had been waiting for a response for a couple of days, etc. It can be frustrating, but I try to remember that it isn't the end of the world. Those negative experiences have also made me a more responsible seller, so I got some benefit from them.

I am guillty of the above. There have been times when I never posted in the thread, just contacted the buyer and made the deal. Maybe it's just a coincidence this one sold the way it did.....

Yeah, not a really big deal. Just disapointing and easily avoidable by simply marking the thread as SPF in a timely manner.

That's pretty much my SOP for buying on the Forums.

Just prefer not to advertise what I'm buying a lot of times...
