Like many newbies, I have been hesitant to offer any of my knives for sale to the general public. I brought a couple to Blade and showed them to some very knowlegable people and they informed me that they weren't quite as hideous looking as I had originally thought:D So I resolved to do a final "clean up" on the knives as some of the smiths had suggested.
When I got home, there was a post on KN from the guy I had sent a KITH knife to. His review was quite glowing, to the point where I was undecided as to whether I should be embarrassed or possibly send him a new pair of reading glasses:eek: Armed with this temporary new confidence, I listed two of the knives I had at
Blade for sale at fairly cheap prices. The first one, a walnut hunter, sold within a day to a fellow in the UK. I listed my ugly little W2/walnut bowie today on British Blades.............and it lasted all of 10 minutes:p  :D My confidence has been boosted immeasurably. After all of my anxiety over putting my stuff out there in the marketplace, once I actually decided to sell my first and second knives, I suceeded beyong my wildest expectations......who's a thunk it? lol

congradulations man! i am far from offering any of mine for sale but i have made several as gifts. its nice to see some one we know make that leap!
good luck and keep on grinding .................errrr sorry just saw the apprentice smith Hammering :)

I have seen them, two nice knives you made there. It just goes to show often the most harshest critic is the maker himself.

Absolutely. Nick Wheeler and Matt Roberts, who incidentally had each made 5 knives that were about as close to perfect as the Mk 1 calibrated bladesmith eyeball can get them IMHO, were both about ready to pass out from anxiety the night before JS judging at Blade. Anyone else who had seen their knives were convinced that these two lads were about as close to being a mortal lock to pass as you could ever get :D Yet Matt was the smith who told me to stop whining, file the handle pin on the hunter a bit more flush and sell the damn thing.....lol. It is much easier to see others work in a positive light than your own.

Joe, congrats on the sales. I saw them at Blade and thought they were quite nice.Keep up the good work.Dave:)

Hey Joe,

Nice going!

I am in a similar situation. I don't think my work is as good as I'm told it is. I got a confidence boost at Blade also and now I'll be doing my first show in October.

Keeparockin Man!

I am thinking about doing the Florida Knifemaker's Association show in October if it looks like I can get enough pieces made before I leave for Europe in September. Othersie I will wait for the Gator Cutlery Club show after the first of the year or maybe a gun show in the fall. Now THAT is as big a step, if not bigger, as actually getting real cash money for the first time.....:D

Thank you sir.......now if i can get mine up to the fit and finish level of your personal carry knife, then maybe I can ask real money for them;)

Congrats Joe, glad to hear the good news. Say, would it be possible to set a date for the completion of the Musso Bowie?

LOL...sorry about that. I have determined that I need to buy some more steel. BIG steel. None of what I have can be pounded out to that size by hand and not end up being 1/6 thick and I have had a delay in getting the press setup. I had that one piece of W2 like the one I sent to Jerry Fisk, but he said that the other one had a weld seam in the bar. That was not an insurmountable issue on the BF charity bowie at 10 x 2, but it would be on one that is 14 x 2 /34. Probably going to be 3/8 O1 unless I can find some BIG 5160 flat bar and no later than 4 weeks. :D
