Any runners out there? I'm training for a 10k and was wondering what other folks are using for a running EDC. Slippies are out, gotta have a clip. Needs to be lightweight and inexpensive too. All that pounding and jarring make loss seem likely so Ive narrowed it down to a Native III, Meyerco Speedster, Gerber EZ out ATS 34. The Speedster is the most "loseable" so it rides most often. :)

Have you seen the AG Russell Hunter's Scalpel? It's a tiny fixed blade that only weighs 8/10ths of an ounce. Would be perfect for cutting knotted shoelaces, poking blisters, or whatever else runners need knives for.

I run (and swim) with a Spyderco Atlantic Salt. I REALLY dont like lockbacks in general due to some nasty accidents with cheap ones (not Spydercos) when I was a kid but I have recently made the exception here with the Salt since this is the only folder I know of that is made with H1. I bought it for swimming and it ended up being my running knife too. Light weight, thin and will take all the sweat you can dish out with no problems. Can be found for $40 or less on ebay also even though impatience got the best of me and I paid $80 from a local dealer. :D

I'm looking to get a HideAway knife myself for just that purpose. The reputation and feedback here have been quite good. Here's a link to some of the many models offered:

Here are some of the ways you can carry them:

The S30V or Ti versions should be fairly rust resistant if you wipe them down afterwards. Good luck deciding and let us know what you get.

Come on, if you're going to carry something jogging... shouldn't this be the one? ;) It's light, thin, and impressive. It used to be my biking knife. (back when I actually got my lard-butt on the bike)

My mom always told me to never run with knives or sharp pencils. She said I would poke my eye out.

Why would you need a knife when running a 10k?

You think you may have to peel some fruit, or ward off some thieves?

You might want to look at a Spyderco Salt. The blade profile is a bit different, but it's basically a Delica that won't rust. I bike every day and used to carry a Rescue IWB, but sweat would bead up on the blade and it'd rust/discolor pretty easily. I've switched to various Salt models and these simply do not rust. The Pacific and Atlantic Salts are very light and thin, and the Salt 1 is even thinner. You'll forget it's even there.

sog auto clip

you can tighten the clip with alittle thumb wheel and the sucker becomes "locked" to your pocket. ive tryed to loose mine just to see how good the clip works and i havent been able to loose it with much less than a full blown hard yank.

I don't need the knife for the 10k I need it for the 5 am training runs through town and possibly the weekend trail runs as well.

My jogging knife is a 4" Voyager tanto, IWB. Light, flat, never had a problem with corrosion even though covered with sweat.
