Just got this in today, I do recommend this little but hard working fixed blade! The sheath that it came with is pretty well made, meant to slip into your pocket, so I took some leather and used some hard ware from a tek lok clip to attach the leather to the sheath via the holes that were provided. It made the whole package a bit handier as it didn't make it much thicker but now allows you to slip it onto a belt, which will be more handy while at home and in the shop working.

Just some quick photos of the leather attached to the sheath

Great idea concerning the sheath! I like it a lot.

Thanks guys, would also like to recognize mistwalker on his Review seen here as that is what drew me to this particular knife.

While the other two look great, my needs boiled down to this smaller version, it's like being able to grip the blade to use just the tip for fine work, except instead of having to hold onto a sharp blade, you have a nicely contoured handle. A lot of strength in a small blade like this. And it arrived nice and sharp too.

edited to add a few photos of the knife taken tonight, mistwalker's review has some excellent coverage of this and the other two sizes in use shots out in the field.

And some spec's for those just joining in;

5 1/4 inches overall with a 2 inch blade

Blade is made from 1/8th CPM S35VN and has Black Natural Canvas Micarta Scales

Thanks for chiming in Gary, I am glad you are enjoying the Runt. I am more enamored of the Hiking Buddy personally. I have loved that model since it was first released and I have had more of the hand made versions than I care to admit :) But I have been carrying and using the Runt a good bit and it does make an awesome little edc. Nice combination of strength and pointy, nicely controllable, very utilitarian, and great ergonomics in such a small handle. That mod you made to the sheath looks great also man.

Yes for me, it was the right choice since taking it out at work wouldn't raise any eyebrows, as they would most likely think it's a folder, being as small as it is, at work I'd pocket it, the adapter thingy is flat and thin enough that it slides right in the pocket easily, at home or the shop, I'd put it on the belt for even better access.

While I'd love to get the next size, I know I'd probably not find a lot of uses, but she sure looks great too !

Just tried the sheath with that added adapter piece, using a line of paracord it hangs from the neck nice and light, for those times you don't want to pocket or belt it, quite the handy little knife right here!

And remember folks, last day for Whitty's special he has going on :)

Nice job on the pictures and sheath. I like how versatile you have made the sheath... making it appropriate for many situations.

Thanks and welcome to the forums too ! Also as an aside note, I did cave and ordered the Hiking Buddy too. Looks like Ramen noodles for a while for me! :)

:thumbup:Great idea, and nice pics! Thanks for sharing. I like my mid-tech Runt too. You should check out some of Bud's Runt sheaths, they're great.

Thanks, I took a look at some of his work, outstanding sheaths there!

I think you will like the hiking buddy
I have been carrying this one for about 3weeks and it is great.

Looks nice sir, mine will have the black micarta to match the Runt. Should have it near the end of this week I hope.

Nice, thanks sir!!

I found that I really miss a lanyard on this knife and also that Hiking Buddy when she comes in, so I plan to do this to that one as well. I have a friend that helped get an 1/4" hole through the tang, carbide drill bit at high speed and then lightly countersunk to remove the sharp edges.

and my plan is to just route in the very end some grooves to allow that paracord to fit into the handle, so from the side or top down, all you'll see is the cord extending out of the end of the knife handle. As I didn't want to mess up the overall look of the knife or remove much if any of the handle scales.

I have a friend that has a lot of wood working tools, a router table being one and will enlist his aid in doing the scales this weekend when he gets home from his trip and also when the hiking buddy should arrive ;)

Thanks, it'll be much neater once I groove out the space for the clearance of the paracord, I'll get a photo of that hopefully by this weekend. I don't have access to a router of my own or I'd do it now.

Again the way these scales are contoured are marvelous, very comfortable grip they provide, well done team Fiddleback !

edited to say, I did have to remove a few strands of inside threads at the start of the paracord in order to get it into the hole and once through, I was able to pull the full size paracord through without a problem.

and a shot of her taken tonight, ;)

Man, Gary you take beautiful knife pics. I've got to figure out how to get the uplight thing set up at the new shop.

Thanks for the review! I'm very glad you like the Runt.

I like the idea of a hidden lanyard hole and recessed scales in the back also. I may incorporate that into the designs.

Thanks Andy, it's a very cool knife sir and sharp! I ordered a small dremel router table thingy as I am not sure when my friend will be back, but that should allow me to put in the little channel to provide clearance for the paracord. The Hiking Buddy should be here by Thursday I hope and on Friday I'll get a hole drilled into the tang of that one as well. and I'll post up images of both with their new tails ;)

For the Runt I may just make what I nick named bobtail fob, a short distance from the end with a diamond knot for the pinky to catch onto.
