Russ Andrews Elmax Fighter

I'm gonna go hit myself in the head with a leather mallet now. This knife is one that will definitely haunt me for letting it go.

Very nice score, Mr. Starr. Hey Russ. How do you like that Elmax stuff?

Joe....I worked with 154CM for quite a while, and later, with CPM 154,so I tend to use
them as a benchmark in evaluating stainless blade steels. Elmax compares very well, and I like
it. The biggest difference between CPM 154 and Elmax is that CPM 154 will attain 2-3 points
higher hardness, and will do it with lower aust.temps.

so, here's a question; if it's sacrilegious for a bladesmith to build a knife using stock removal from stainless steel, is it ok for a stock removal maker to forge a knife from carbon steel...?
:D

Fun aside....Both methods are appropriate under various circumstances.

I was checking out the spec sheet for Elmax and the temps for austenizing it when using cryo did appear to be VERY high, like "be careful that it doesn't forge weld itself to the side of the oven" high. LOL
